May be a few days late, but a 55 sec trailer has been released for Star Ocean 4.

High Quality Version available here:

Also a youtube version for those who don't want to wait:

The trailer seems to be nothing more than a little bit of sci-fi eye candy. The music for the first few seconds is reminiscent of the Original Star Trek theme, which isn't surprising.

Screenshots:

That last bit looks a heck of a lot like Valhalla. Maybe we'll see Lenneth again....

*crosses fingers that it's not PS3*  Undecided
Wii would be nice, but I don't know if it could run it.

I'm pretty sure its only coming about on the PS3 which is a shame.

On the other while trailer is nice and all I actually want to know about the gameplay. Will be like Star Ocean 3? Will its be something similar to the older games? Or something completely new?

Well, they're building an engine for Infinite Undiscovery for the 360. It would make sense to me for them to reuse it. I'm not sure how portable it'll be, since tri-Ace really really really likes to likes to push features of the hardware they make games for, and optimize them to death. Good engines on the HD platforms take a lot of time to develop, so I guess we'll see.

And now, for a game of chinese whispers, because I can't remember exactly: I recall there being a want ad placed by tri-Ace looking for developers to work on an unannounced Xbox 360 game. It may have even said it was for an established franchise. This was well before Star Ocean 4 was announced and well after Infinite Undiscovery's annoucement.

Back when tri-Ace talked about their PS2 engine after VP2 was done they also mentioned that their next engine would be platform agnostic. I always considered Microsoft financing IU (even back when Square-Enix was not yet involved) their way to get quickly up-to-speed with the latest technology back when PS3 wasn't even out yet (tri-Ace/Gotanda is quite open about sharing their experience, which is very uncommon for Japanese developers but the norm among Western devs as well as Japanese companies working with Microsoft Games Studios Japan).

One thing kind of interesting, if you go to rpgamer. They have an article on Star Ocean 4. In it they state that this new game would not be taking place in the same time era as Star Ocean 3. However the game wouldn't be so confined that it wouldn't be impossible for the heroes of the new Star Ocean to see other explored worlds. This makes me wonder if we could possibly see Claude, Fayt, Lenneth, or even Ratix in this new Star Ocean. Also if you watch that trailer that was released the final part of the trailer you see the two new characters standing at that archway, which looks striking similar to the time warp Ratix and his friends use in Star Ocean 1. This could mean that in Star Ocean 4 you would be able to travel through time to different points. I can't wait for this game.

I hope one day we can meet the founders of Tri-Ace.
