But it's only for First Departure.
The new look works a lot like xenogears where you have 2 dimensional characters in a fully polygonal 3D world...

Sweet. I didn't like the first one's battle system, so the SO2 one should be good.

I kind of wish it was full 3D, though... *shot*

And why the heck do they still have "TGS" over at SO4? Did they even show a trailer?

holy sh!t, forget full 3d. That mapping gives the perfect classic nostalgia.

Sweet. I didn't like the first one's battle system, so the SO2 one should be good.

I'm not sure if you're referring to the battle system in SO1r or SO2 itself...

But it looks to me that SO1r is using the SO2 engine, but they've greatly improved the 3D graphics (in the newest screens). The first battle shot of SO1r showed it using an exact copy of an SO2 HUD and battlefield, horrible PSX-quality 3D graphics and all...

I just hope now that they've ironed out some of the flaws in SO2's battle system (for SO1r), and refined it to another degree without going through a multitude of major changes ala SO3. I hope SO2's battles receive the same treatment (and the world map gets a major facelift and framerate improvement on top of that).

Of course, my biggest worry about the PSP Star Oceans is that the SO2 engine port-job will be crappy. Whoever's doing these PSP ports for SE (presumably TOSE) has no frickin' clue what they're doing!

And why the heck do they still have "TGS" over at SO4? Did they even show a trailer?

I dunno, but at least they did show Infinite Undiscovery, which looks AMAZINGLY SMOKING HOT. Probably my most anticipated game at the show.

I hope the Online-like gameplay doesn't become a trend to SquareEnix. Infinite Undiscoveries' trailer has me worried.

i hope they consult with Team Destiny or something in improving the battle system, because WOW, was SO2's battle system terrible. SO1's was okay for its time, like ToP SFC, but SO2 was just atrocious. getting your character to do what you want is like taking baby from a candy.

I didn't think SO2 fighting was so bad. Until I played part 1 that is. I'm not thrilled about remakes of this and that, but new ideas/games.

Like Chrono Trigger, or Treasure of Rudra for instance, now there's a couple of classics for ya(though I don't play Snes anymore)! But back to the SO series, I recently found out that a certain group managed to get a spanish translation up to 19% while teams like Aeon Genesis only have about 10%! I think it's ridiculous that they would get a game from a series such as this patched out there(Spain?) before the folks here in the US(even if it's for GBC). That game was like the best looking one for GBC I've seen(they pushed GBC to the limits on this one in my opinion).

Just curious to know if anyone else heard/knew about this, but finally, in regards to this SO4, I heard there was a sample or presentation of some sort at Youtube, but I doubt that's true. Regardless I'll look into it(not just there of course) and I hope that this one won't be a letdown like a lot of the sequels we've been getting lately.

Sooo... Boredom struck and I decided to put some Star Ocean on YouTube...

Star Ocean - First Departure - Opening FMV

Star Ocean - First Departure - Introduction Sequence

Star Ocean - Introduction Sequence (Original Snes version)

The quality of the PSP videos I uploaded could've been better if Sony/SquareEnix hadn't used a new (or updated) codec for this game. For some reason, FMV data is about half the size pr.minute of what it has been in other PSP games. So either they've updated the h264 codec somehow or started using a new codec. Anyway, this prevented me from using the original video data as the source for the uploaded file.

Man, I remember some scenes (especially fight sequences/angles) in the trailer looked like Production IG recycled from ToS intro.
