Cover art!

I don't like it. Everyone looks somehow wrong on it. Yuri looks more feminine than ever and like he's growing his own pair of funbags. The 360 cover done in the same style (US Premium/JP/EU) cover looks a load better. Hell, it damn near makes the regular cartoony US cover art look like a masterpiece in comparison.

I guess you get some kind of unlock code for these if you pre-order the game in Japan. All this really does is make me want an HD Abyss remake running on Vesperia's glorious engine. :/

The cover is a bit too crowded for my liking. Judy's pose looks really awkward and Repede looks squished.

I'll be happy as long as it comes to the US because then I will only have to buy one expensive console.

- Patty is way too big
- Judith looks awkward
- Rita looks odd (and what is she holding?), but she's probably the best of the bunch
- Repede is just... WTF. Maybe it's just the low-res image, but he looks squished and totally wrong
- Estelle is alright, though somehow a bit off
- Yuri was always toeing the line, but this makes him a flat-out fruitcake
- Even Flynn looks pretty fruity, and also totally unlike Flynn
- Raven doesn't look anything like Raven
- Karol looks like he's gone through puberty and then some

Summary: What was the artist smoking, what were the people who approved it smoking, and what were the surely tens of people who should have been able to raise objections about this shitty cover art smoking?

Is that Flynn in the Luke costume? Surprised they didn't go with the obvious Guy costume. Karol would be a cute Luke.

I thought the artist was Fujishima, in which case I'm not sure not approving it is an option. You don't hire someone like him and then turn around and say, "Uh, this picture you drew sucks, can we get a new one?" But the artist is surely the same one who drew the cover art for the Japanese versions of ToS and ToA, which were even worse, with the exception of ToS-PS2, so someone thinks this kind of thing is a good idea. (In ToS-PS2's case, I think a different graphic designer saved it to some extent. It was the same type of picture but had some characters cut out for the actual box.)

Sure you do! You don't get hired for a job and expect to be able to have leeway on crap work no matter who you are. You have to please your clients other wise they wont hire you. I can just imagine how a conversation like that would go.

artist "You don't like my work! Well your gonna use it any! What do you think o'that!?"

Person who hired the artist "... You're fired."

I agree that Judith looks awkward. Plus it's confusing which people the story really focuses on. There's no reason to peoples sizes and Estelle is just shoved to the side of the box. I guess an indicator would be the people in the center but is Flynn really more important then Estelle if that's the case? The Xbox 360 cover for the japanese and limited addition version was much more clearer about this.

New Vesperia PV!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62iZ20Gur_Y

Flynn has Rising Falcon, Patty has Risky Bet. For mystic artes/hi-ougis, Repede has Lightning Moment, Estelle has Ultimate Elements, and Rita has (do I need to say it?) INDIGNATION! Full body cut-ins have returned.

Anyone think we'll get this game in North America? It certainly would be nice to have some official word. I don't want to be buying this game three times...

The same thing I think happened to Eternal Sonata. And since Vesperia apparently helped Xbox 360 sales...people will flock to the PS3 if it comes to the US. I think it has a good chance of it coing here.

I just hope Microsoft doesn't have this game locked down on the 360 in North America.

Yeah I'll be pissed if they pull a Symphonia. I only want to have to buy once console and I'm leaning towards a PS3 for GT.

Demo's on Japanese PSN. After a bothersome 45 minutes downloading new PS3 firmware, going through the hoops to register a Japanese PSN account, and downloading/installing, I got to play with it.

Doesn't play in English like the 360 one did. Tongue The 360 controller is also much more comfortable to use than Sony's ancient design.

It takes place in Keiv Moc. Got my ass handed to me by the boss because I forgot how to keep it from healing.

Patti is included in the demo. I don't know if she was added for the sake of it, but there was a scene added for her in the middle of the place, and she was in some skits. She did not appear at all in the scenes that existed in the 360 version, though.

Port job is a million times better than Symphonia PS2's. Framerates are intact, and I can't perceive any graphical differences at 720p. Only knock is that the battle load times seem to be a few seconds longer (they were near instant on 360 after the first battle). Haven't seen the world map, problems are still possible there, but I guess we'll see.

Good to hear what the demo is like, since I actually mentioned to my sister that I intend to do the same thing I did last year, except on her and friends' PS3.

At least knowing they intend to use Patty in the demo will at least feel worth checking this demo out, since that would be the reason I would even bother trying the PS3 demo, even with my almost done second playthrough of the game.

At least it's good to hear the port isn't a repeat of Tales of Symphonia's PS2 port.  I would make a certain comment, but then I remember that Lost Planet got ported to the PS3 later and I heard the port wasn't done that well, showing that just because it got ported from a less powerful system doesn't mean it was coded properly for the more powerful system.

I got 2 good signs this is coming out in North America.

1. The PS3 demo has a partial English translation hidden in the code.
http://scrawlfx.com/2009/07/english-code-in-tales-of-vesperia-ps3-demo-hint-at-western-release

2. The demo will assign X as confirm and O as cancel if it detects you are playing on a USA/PAL system, but will assign O as confirm and X as cancel if played on a JPN/Asia system.
TOV Demo on USA console: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvaHzW2WyY0
TOV Demo on JPN console: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOYnyTCsIQM

Carefully look at the controls in menus and you'll see what I mean. The fact that it checks this gives more reason to believe this will get an International release.

At the very least, its a sign that the JPN release may have an option for English text. Hopefully.

I can't really say anything about the cover since I chose to remain naive about the game until I actually played it.   Chances look good that it'll be in my PS3 soon.  I'm glad Namco hasn't forgotten about us  Smiley

This is what makes me angry.  Can't they let us choose?  Geez it's annoying.  :/  I've been playing the entire series in Japanese, and now they're going to make me switch to American cancel/confirm configuration!
