It's not completely different. Reid's English VA in ToE actually sounded like the Japanese, and yes, I've heard the voices. Also, the Japanese tend to be overdramatic with their voice acting, so I try to avoid going into the typical anime fan, "All English VAs are monotone and emotionless". I hate the fact that so many fans tend to dislike the English voices, just because they seem emotionless. Well, English speaking people don't need to shout at the top of their lungs just to get the emotion right. I'm a voice actor, and I think English VAs do a good job. Besides, the recordings made the final project, so they should be good. I doubt a voice director dude would let some stuff slide.

Actually, when playing an English dub game, I rarely get the feeling that I get when I can feel the emotion from the voice, but that doesn't mean they show no emotion.

It's not just you, it's everyone I've talked to on forums like this. To be fair, Reid had his monotone moemnts, but, imo, eveything else was fine.

Why do I hate the dubs so much?

Because they don't match the character at all. Compare Farah's JP voice to the horrible dubbed one. Reid I guess isn't that bad, but Farah's is completely off. It's when I heard Farah's voice that I stopped playing, so I don't know know how bad the other voices are.

It's not like I hate all dubs. I actually like most of them - e.g. FFX, FFXII, MGS 1-3, Dark Cloud 2, SMT:DDS 1-2, Rogue Galaxy... (pretty much all the games I've played that include voice acting). The only game I have ever wanted an undub for is ToE and Kingdom of Paradise (haven't played Star Ocean yet).

This game seems pretty hard to undub though so I'm dropping whatever I'm doing. If anyone else ever wants to try then I suggest that they try it with the PSX version (ToD II I think), as unlike the PSP version, all the necessary files are external and not packed into the executable.

Tales of Destiny psx has the undub in battle, but after the next tales game cane out it all dub. That why I hate Namco US sometimes

Well, most Japanese teen anime girls have those high voices, and that itself is unrealistic, so of course they are going to sound different. I think Farah's English voice fits her perfectly, she isn't supposed to be a girly girl, threrefor, she shouldn't have a girly voice, like what the Japanese did to her.

Actually she IS supposed to sound like that, cause she is supposed to be weak inside because of you-know-what, but well, it is not THAT far off as meredys.. ugh :S

She may be weak on the inside, but that's not her biggest trait. The English voice fits her main trait, being somewhat tomboyish.

No, it isn't only the laughing scene in your memories. It's the laughing scene, Rikku crawling on the groung and laughing (LOL LAUGHING but wasn't she scared?) in thunder plains, the Ronso chanting the hymn of the fayth to Yuna in Mt. Gagazet (seriously, that one made me laugh out f*cking LOUD and it wasn't even supposed to be funny), the "two, three, teach us how to Blitz!" scene right at the beginning of the game... and so on. >____>
