The perplexity of an absurd delusion.

I just wanted the PSP version to fix the artes names. I could deal with the crappy voices, but man...that is some lazy shit. I can't even remember what the crap Reid's artes were anymore, since I'm most-familiar with him in Radiant Mythology (shut up; last I played Eternia before the PSP version was TWO THOUSAND TWO), and since the second and third games are JP-only, I only know of the JP names for them and can't remember the "correct" translations (I say that because I'm completely-unsure as to which of Reid's artes have and haven't been used by other characters in translated Tales games).

I'm surprised, in this era of romhackers and such, that nobody decided to go back and re-translate all the artes in Destiny 1, and maybe dig far enough into the code to see if they can figure out why the AI settings don't work right.

I'm surprised that nobody's fixed the arte names in Destiny and Eternia as well, actually!
I honestly believe that if a better translation of Destiny was released I might enjoy it this time around! =P
Hey, go easy on me if you're a fan of Destiny; Symphonia got me hooked on the series then I went back and started playing the rest from first released (officially in English and/or translation patches) to most recent, with Destiny being the only one that I didn't play through to completion.

Off the top of my head, for Eternia's arte-names: Sonic Blade is Demon Fang, Swarm is Sword Rain, Demon Hammer is Tiger Blade, and Demon Twist(?) is Light Spear (that one... actually took me a bit to recognize in 2D, unlike the others which I knew instantly). IIRC everything else is either a compound/more powerful version based on these arte names (Neo Swarm, Double Demon Hammer, etc) or has the same name in later localizations (Tempest, Quasi Seal).

In a slightly related note, it was nice the way that in spite of re-recording the lines for the cameo battle in Abyss (there's no doubt in my mind that that's Sam Riegel voicing Reid in Abyss instead of "unknown male voice-actor" from Eternia) they intentionally gave his artes the names from Eternia. It added to the "this is the same guy I played as in the other game! Cheesy" effect, you know?

Also Radiant Mythology 1. At least they try to get good voice-actors. I hated Legendia, but I thought the voices were appropriate for the characters and very well-acted.

Oh, I definitely agree about the voice-actors!
From Symphonia on the series has generally had strong voice-acting, with only a handful of weak spots here and there, such as roughly half of the returning cast in  Symphonia 2 being voiced by Tara Strong. It's not that she's -bad- or anything, it's just that her Raine and Sheena sound like second-rate imitations of the original English voice-actors for those characters. It's not ear-grating, but it does get annoying when, for instance, your party comes across Sheena and Genis is all "Oh hey I know that voice!" That game was weak on the voice-acting front in general, though; Beacock's Lloyd just sounds entirely off, and Zelos' VA (can't remember who it is at this moment?) is trying too hard to imitate Shiloh Strong so some of his lines sound a little fake-y and forced.
