There's additional text in the PS2 version though, for the extra scenes and the extra abilities. The size difference could cause problems with the game if you just replaced it.

I think there was a topic like this before somewhere in this section, you might try looking for it.

In any case, that UNDUB stuff is interesting.  I might have to look into that.  I'm curious though, does this replace ALL audio?  Like, will the skits be voiced and subtitled if I have the UNDUB version?

I have this hack... Roll Eyes
there is japanese audio in FMVs, battle, story and anywhere Tongue
only there isn't japanese audio in the skits... Cry
The USA release has no voices for the skits. This is a bummer
since even though the Japanese skit voices are now present, the
game doesn't play them.

Oh, why is it that they only undubbed Abyss so far? I do actually remember some people trying to undub Legendia, but didn't hear anything come out of it. Is it because Legendia was harder to undub, or there just wasn't any interest (I'm going with the latter)?

The problem with the undub thing for Abyss though is that when hit an enemy, they use the US dub voices. I was fighting Mint with it and it freaked me out <_<;;

Guy: *thwackthwackthwackthwack* Majinken! Kogahazan! Dankuuken!
Mint: Minna-san! Daijobu des--OW OW OW STOP IT OW OW OW

There are certain clips that aren't using japanese voices either, Regret/Legretta's Rage Laser for one is still the US voice..

Well, some of the moves (I know at least in terms of the Hi-Ougi) are unique to the US version, so it makes sense that you wouldn't be able to replace ALL of the audio files seeing as there would likely be more of them for the US version, I would think.

Guy still had a voice for Brilliant Overlord though.  I guess that was a last minute cut then.

Well I like the English.  The only Tales I'd want an undub for is Eternia, but still the voices aren't bad.

Hmm yeah, you're right about that.  That is strange...

I have to say though, I'm somewhat disappointed that the skit voices aren't there.  If there was anything that I would've wanted fixed in an undub, it would have been the total silence during skits.

Yeah, that's the only reason that I would want an undub too.  The skits are still funny but they are so much better when voiced, even if I can't totally understand them.

Things that aren't voiced that are unique to the US version in terms of availibilty with the undub are just Philia's Sacred Penace hi-ougi and Luke's Ion extension. (Which totally furthers my "Hometek is giving us a sign that we'll get ToDr! LOOK! PHILIA HI-OUGI! *desperately grasps straws*" point <_<; )

You guys do know that the majority of the added hi-ougis are scrapped stuff that they didn't have time to implement in the first place right? Even Nebby's stuff is fully voiced. I just haven't checked the final boss yet for his, but those two are the only ones that don't have voices in the JP game.

I figured that, but I wasn't sure.  I was also wondering why they would add Sacred Penance/Blame if they weren't going to release ToDr here.

The game doesn't play them because by just replacing the sound files, you aren't altering the programming. Namco Hometek reprogrammed the game to not use any voice files at all for skits, so even if you give it additional voice files, just replacing the voice files won't make them play. You only get Japanese voices where they existed in the Japanese version, and where the American version tells them to play. You also end up with English for the oddball sound clips stored in places other than the file that was replaced.

Yeah, I noticed both of those when I popped it in since the first 2 things I tried were Cameo battle and God-General battle...
