I guess this would be my first post. :p

But, anyways, where would I find detailed information on the various differences between the various versions of the games? (Mothership titles in particular)

Thanks in advance.

Mothership titles are the main series. Escorts are spinoffs.

I should of specified...

I am not new to the series by a long shot, I am looking for information on what the differences are between the various games. (Eternia PS1 and Eternia PSP for example).  Though I have since found some information, so all I want to know now is:

-List of changes in the Rebirth port
-List of changes in the Destiny 2 port (I don't mean eternia)
-List of changes in the Vesperia port (Is it released yet?)
-And the difference between the two versions of hearts are contained in the animated cutscenes only, right?

Edit: And if any of these questions have already been answered on this forum, please point me in the right direction, my search unfortunately turned up empty.

No difference between Anime and CG ver. of ToH beyond anime vs. CG scenes. You get Viva Heartful! Tales of DVD with Anime preorder, Visual & OST DVD with CG.

ToE PSP:
- Loads faster, higher tempo
- better gfx, effects
- Eternia PocketStation games/stuff gone (items back to regular ones)
- No more Dancing Star / Star Dancer title for Reid. Titles related to Eternia Pocket all gone
- added mov(s), PS1 ver. had cut various scenes like Van Eltia power-up scene because of space
- Bugs like Sushi house minigame fixed
- Only Monster and Collector's Books inherited 2nd playthrough

ToD2 PSP:
- Interim save doesn't disappear after loading like PS2 ver., meaning you can save anywhere anytime.
- New enemy charas, items, enemy beef ups
- Grade calc. more forgiving
- 1000 Grade upon game clear
- More stuff in Grade Shop, lower Grade requirements
- Relaxed conditions for skill use
- Changed some stats for titles
- New cut-ins for hiougi/summons (with option to change back to PS2 ver. in Grade Shop)
- Added cut-ins for some bosses too (like Magnadeus)
- Mode to view all the movies and illustrations
- Various bug fixes, but maybe because of hardware diffs, some skills stop animating during execution or battle theme still continues to play after battle ends

ToR PSP:
- Interim save doesn't disappear after loading like PS2 ver., meaning you can save anywhere anytime.
- Added battle arena, new item for prize
- New illustration book
- Added cut-ins, events
- Added GOD difficulty (next level after UNKNOWN)
- Can now buy Apple Gummy
- Walk faster in dungeons/towns
- New Grade Shop options

ToV PS3 (tentative):
- New party chara Patty Fleur
- Flynn's time in party lengthened
- Added Special Flag R (Repede can be display chara)
- Artes Ball (set skills twice)
- Added scene skipping, reworked camera angles
- New costumes, attachments, skills, dungeon(s), boss character(s), Gigant monsters
- Subevents added/extended
- An unlockable skit using product code in Tales of VS. preorder

- Artes Ball (set skills twice)

wait what? what is this?

also the rest of the stuff sounds great... it's basically what ToV should have been from the start i think :/

Are the original PS2 versions still worth playing for Destiny 2 and Rebirth?  (For either when a translated version gets created or when I learn Japanese, whatever comes first. Grin)

Also, I heard that the PS2 version of Symphonia was disappointing, is there anything to that?

The added content for all the PSP ports are not very significant, so it's basically the same whether you play on PS2 version or PSP version.  I've played both PS2 and PSP versions of TOD2 and TOR, and I can't say I really care for the extras.  Get the PSP version if you play on the go, or the PS2 version for the capability of playing on a bigger screen and using the DualShock controller.

TOS PS2 has somewhat more content than the GC version (new costumes, a few new skills, Mystic Artes, etc.) but, as a trade-off, suffers technically.  For example, the transition from field to battle in the GC version is probably about 1 second.  In the PS2 version, the transition is about 4 seconds.  The quality of the graphics is slightly lower as well.  However, if you had a choice between the two, I would recommend the PS2 version.

I'd rather play the originals on PS2 and then maybe run through the PSP vers if I feel like it. ToD2 might be better on PSP though with all the bugfixes and melee non-brokenness. But since we're translating PS2 ver, your choice is probably made. I much prefer the old ToD2 cut-ins anyway (unlockable on PSP only after 1 playthough). ToS PS2's updates aren't really worthwhile unless you love cut-ins and are a gambling whore.

ToS PS2:
- New costumes, sub events, titles, skills
- Dummied voice data gone, bugs/misprints from GC ver. fixed, but longer load times
- Hiougi for all party, added cut-ins for bosses
- More U-Attack combos possible, esp. for Regal
- Unison Gauge fills faster
- Some effects improved (like Cyclone spell), but overall performance drop (30FPS, textures)
- During skits, chara display window can change sizes in concert with the action
- Some delay with battle voices
- GC in Sylvarant Base changed
- Altamira casino craps!
- More time for input during U-Attack sequence (3 secs now)
- Secret dungeon "Makai Niflheim" changed to "Anamnesis of Forbidden Book", 15 to 20 floors, fight phantom Grand Cardinals and the Three Heroes (Yuan, Kratos, Mithos)
- Longer spell cancel stagger, can't abuse for infinite combos
- Changed some sub events, like Flanoir event with Kratos (Kratos no longer automatically 4th visitor, must be in top 3 in order to recruit him)

Also skuldnoshippu's full guide here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/561316/32765

wait what? what is this?
Wrong, probably. It looked kinda iffy already.

so yeah, read with a grain of salt:
- (Most of) main scenario voiced
- Party AI improvement
- Party battle for arena
- Sound test on Nam Ko Island (Nam Cobanda Isle)
- New field, new dungeon (enter Estelle's room)
- New hiougi cut-ins (2 kinds a la ToA with full body)
- New event scenes, sub events, secret missions

Black, for those of you keeping track. Her "no ja" also looks to be very annoying.

The Artes Ball gives you an additional 8 shortcuts for artes, bringing the total number of shortcuts to 16. It was in the PS3 demo, if I remember correctly.

Tales of Destiny 2 PSP seems to have a slightly less consistent frame rate too. It's not really noticable though unless it's a hi ougi or a huge spell, still playable, but I much prefer the swiftness of the PS2 version.

Thanks for the replies, now if only if I had a way to play these Japan only games (I'm salivating over them Grin). Learning the language is probably the best option, now if I only had a good way to do that. :p

Also, after seeing a lot of eternia praise here, I feel like playing it again, how is the pal localization for the PSP? (Seeing as I already beat the PS1 version)

Exactly the same as the PS1 version.

PSP/DS Tales would be easiest since imports work on English consoles.
A lot of Tales games is pretty user friendly without having  to read anything, so you don't have to learn the language just to enjoy them (though if you're interested in Japanese, I'd say go for it). The Team Destiny games, for example, like Tales of Destiny 2 or Tales of Destiny remake have really nice interfaces, freaking blinking dot on the world map tells you where to go next....you only need to look online occasionally if you're stuck.
Tales of Rebirth or the Radiant Mythology games (due to quests) are probably the least friendly for non Japanese speaking importers. Everything else I find, can be pretty easily played.

Exactly. Not only do all of the "Tales of..." games have walkthroughs that can get you through the game as an English-speaker, but many of the games have "Story Synopses" that explain the storyline, and "Dialogue Scripts" that literally type word-for-word the characters' lines through the whole game.

I've never learned the language all the way, myself--just some basic stuff--but have still imported many of the Japanese games, for the above reasons. *kicks self for being dependent on peoples' making guides* :-P .
