i hope it comes out for the ps3 as well. i dont want to feel like i wasted money on a gaming system. i have a ps3 with no games atm. i was hoping that it would get a tales of game really soon. looks as though i am going to have to get myself a xbox360 just for this game.

is xbox360 region free?

Xbox 360 has the OPTION of discs being region-free, but most publishers/developers don't use the option, and region-lock the discs anyway (You would think this would be counter-productive, since it would save them having to try to do an international release of some games, and thus they could get more easy sales from importers, instead of limiting themselves to the small Japanese 360 market...). PS3 doesn't let PS3 game discs be region-locked, but it will enforce the lock on PS1 and PS2 discs. Wii doesn't allow region-free at all.

The first tales of game I played was TOS, and I really liked it. The graphics were childish in my opinion but it made up for it with a good storyline, which is also very cliche, but seriously, its got loads on some crap like FFXII.

I WOULD have LOVED to play TOA, but since I dont seem to live in the 2 countries where they bothered to ship it, I'm finding that a bit hard. Its bad enough that we barely get ANYTHING around here and if we do its 2 years later than everybody else! We're human here too! WE HAVE COMPUTERS AND CONSOLES SO GIVE US THE BLOODY GAMES!!!

What Im hoping for from TOV is that first off it would actually come here...then I'd like it to be more serious/mature themed than the other Tales of's. Lastly I'd like it to have cool character designs, and since I'm really digging the black haired guy's design, that doesnt look like a problem (actually so far I like all of the designs except for the short kid who looks annoying and the knight-dude who is okay but very...generic.)

OH, and I seriously hope its for PS3. XBOX would be a waste of money at this point, and I mean seriously, how many hardcore RPG fans have one? Its meant for older men who like football and car games.

Thats my point of view. Smiley

Well, you see...

PS3:
FF13
Eternal Sonata (from which we don't even know yet if it gets out of Japan, see ToS PS2)

360:
Lost Oddyssey
Eternal Sonata
Infinite Undiscovery
Blue Dragon

Yeah seeing that with games you know it is OK, but there is more in PS3 than just that, and I agree on the point this game should be released (or ported like Symphonia) to PS3

Sure it can't be for the PSP's simpe 480p (progressive scan)? I know its not true high-def like 720p/1080p; but the psp can somewhat do it.
Maybe that game is going through a slims' component cables?

The PSP would choke and explode trying to play this game.

I think you just mentioned the two types of games you're the least likely to see me play (without getting paid for it). And I at least like to pretend I'm a happy 360 owner (actually, I'm very happy with my game library on it).

I've talked to the guy round here who distributes XBOX's before (I work part-time in a videogame store) since he usually pops in randomly to give us more of his buisness cards, but what from what Ive understood by talking to him is that the XBOX's target audience is not teens who like dragons and magic (which is HIS qoute not mine btw) but older men. But of course there has to be at least SOME rpg's for XBOX, but when ps3 gets its groove on......its gonna be left in the dust. Considering if the only mainstream names for the xbox are those Llewellyen mentioned, AND its been out since 2005.

...or maybe this is just my utter compelling hatred for the XBOX speaking?  Tongue

I have an Xbox 360 and about twenty retail games. Zero of them are football games and only one of them is a racing game. Three of them are Japanese RPGs and I'll bring that count up to four in a couple of weeks with Lost Odyssey. That's not even counting the fifteen games I have on Xbox Live Arcade, which is a brilliant resurrection of retro-style gaming.

Plus, as mentioned above.. the Xbox 360 currently has the most released and the most upcoming RPGs of the new consoles. I will not deny that the Xbox 360's tepid response in Japan is worrisome for fans of JRPGs, but the cost of producing high-definition games is astronomical and will practically force developers into maintaining cross-platform releases to ensure maximum profits on both sides of the ocean.

So, anyone have any actual JP sales figures for 360 and PS3 RPG sales? (Of course, if any of the games were in bundles, that complicates things. I still don't know which numbers to believe for ToS-GC, since those seem to be random values between 300k-something and 900k-something.)

I supposed 18-35 could count as "older" men depending on who's speaking. But age aside, Tales games are clearly for girls! Perhaps Namco would be wise to bundle it with a special 360 that is cute and pink. Tongue

Cyllya predicts:
--Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World will reveal that Ratatosk was involved in ToS's last required scene in Heimdall.
--Tales of Vesperia's plot will involve space aliens in some way

Not on hand.. but they're absolutely horrible on the Xbox 360 and only marginally better on the PS3. Japan is really shifting their primary gaming to mobiles and portables. Another thing to consider in this is that I think Japanese developers are quite behind the times in terms of technology for the high-definition consoles since they are very closed-doors and do not share technology like American and European developers do with things like the Unreal and Source engines.

All I know is that Blue Dragon hit somewhere around 200K, which was best-selling game on the system on the system by far and away.

I'd like to believe a large, established franchise like Tales would actually manage to beat that, but I'm really not holding my breath. Tales of Innocence on the DS (the biggest damn system ever released in Japan) isn't selling impressively compared to most older titles in the series. (though I'd really like to blame the fact that Namco only shipped 150K copies at launch and the jacked up price tag compared to the average DS game is what killed a lot of its momentum).

Maybe they'll do a premium pack that includes the game and a system...
