Yes, we still live in a world where people can develop opinions and preferences.
I have to revise my browser preference...
IE8 > IE7 > Firefoxpera
There's still some kinks they need to work out in the Release Candidate, but man are Accelerators sweet.
So now your code will work in all of the browsers.

I'm not entirely sure how IE8 renders things differently from IE7, but there is a "compatibility" mode that apparently does things IE7 style. In any case, my code still looks nice on IE8, compatibility mode or not.

IE8 basically renders how every other browser has for who knows how long, since it passes Acid2 100%. Acid3 doesn't matter that much right now, since it's more of the inner-workings than layout.

Yup, aeroglass sucks
The wrong thing in it is the approach, just like always M$ had to add the eyecandy for the eyecandy meaning they went too far. MacOS openGL acceleration is very light and it is really meant to offload the cpu with mundane tasks of minimizing windows and whatnot. To do that it treats windows as textures and does it's part, basically, which is not at all that intensive, and isn't meant to.
Aeroglass? what a waste of resources by comparison. I've seen laptops who were constantly at full load and with cooling to go along with because of it. Plus, the hardware requirements are too much (128 MB of VIDEO RAM?
talk about lack of optimization), as always Microsoft didn't knew how to keep it simple.
those laptops are clearly not meant to run aero glass, then. mine is running a 3360x1050 desktop just fine without issues. and 128 MB of video ram is practically standard now...
btw, how do you know OSX isn't intensive? i'm sure it isn't quite as intensive since it doesn't have pretty glass effects and came out a few years earlier, but still, apple machines tend to be high spec in general, and you're comparing that to lower-end laptops that choke on aero. and i seem to recall my friend's mac mini (aka the only lower spec apple machine there is, pretty much) choking on those fancy minimize animations in OSX.
i'm not convinced that microsoft went too far or anything... they're designing for newer computers that can easily afford to do things like pretty glass effects.

JUMPING IN! Whether an operating system be for a new machine or old I feel making a new operating system more resource intensive is always bad. Personally I can't wrap my head around why vista even need 2 gigs of ram. Of course this is comin from a linux geek
. Still though if we're talking about gui bells and whistles like minimize effects and transparency I can find the latest distro of my proffered operating system install it on my Pentium 4, 3 GHz desktop with 512 megabytes and do all of the fancy effects Mac osx and vista can do and more. You know what else I don't even like using them anyway. I find there was no reason vista had to have the specs it did to run smoothly.

it makes sense for operating systems to become more resource intensive because the amount of resources that you have available increases at such a rapid pace. it can't be "always bad", unless you think we should have stuck with command line and never moved on to GUIs. also, aero glass is SLIGHTLY more involved than "transparency effects".
but dragurd is right, this is potentially endless.

I guess what I meant is if unless you have to make an operating system more resource intensive then it's okay. But making an operating system more resource intensive because hardware allows is not okay. Oh and by the by I don't like the command line very much.

Linux is made to be used on really crappy spec systems, though. That's like saying we should use the command line because a GUI uses more resources.

Arhg! I'm tripping over my words! I was comparing linux based operating systems to windows of the latest distributions. With compiz you can do all the fancy effects and more then what you could do in windows vista on an older computer that vista couldn't run on smoothly. My opinion of how an operating system should advance is to not only improve upon its interface but to become more efficient in the resources it uses not to just rely on the added power of new hardware. This is what I feel microsoft did with vista and apparently they are changing that in windows 7 because it is said to be less resource intensive then vista is. I'll reiterate that I do not like using the command line. There! i think thats clear enough... Maybe
EDIT: Also compiz is still in it's alpha stages so what does that say about areo glass?

while i agree efficiency is always a good thing... why are you concerned with how aero glass runs on an older computer? it was not designed for older computers.
and again, aero glass uses a glass effect for its window frames. i have no idea exactly how much more intensive this is than regular simple transparency, but it certainly is (slightly) more intensive. if that causes older computers to choke, well... it's a non-issue, because aero glass was not designed for those older computers.
