I'm just bumping the topic to say that from what some people says, the game looks quite bad...

To quote someone from gamefaqs:
-12 hour game
-No voice except in battle
-No skits
-No hiougis
-Useless backtracking to extend game length
-Combat movement is laggy
-No grade shop
-No new game+
-Really simple battle system?
-Non animated/half? intro with ingame footage

I still have some hope, but not much :/ Hopefully I should get my hands on it very soon.

And the game was outsourced to a company called DIMPS.

Hm... all these reactions are making me kind of glad that I didn't pick it up...  It might be something I look into somewhere down the line, but it doesn't sound like I need to be in any hurry.

It sounds like they didn't even try. I'll be waiting til the import hits $15 before adding it to my collection.

Yeah, now that I think about it, it might end up in Play-Asia's "Special offer of the week" like Tales of Legendia, Xenosaga 1&2 DS or Children of Mana... Seiing how those were also quite anticipated and ended up being ditched by gamers in the end.

-12 hour game

Good. It is a PORTABLE game after all.

-No voice except in battle
-No skits
-No hiougis

So..?

-Useless backtracking to extend game length

I'd rather backtrack than sit through HOURS of lame dialog (*cough* Abyss *cough*).

-Combat movement is laggy

Well, this could suck, admittedly.

-No grade shop
-No new game+

Again.. so..?

-Really simple battle system?

Great! Simplicity over convolution in my book.

-Non animated/half? intro with ingame footage

OH NO! NON ANIMATED INTRO = BAD GAME!

Sorry, but these are some of the most ancillary complaints I've seen about a game in a long time.. and the couple issues that would actually concern me from a GAMEPLAY standpoint probably aren't as bad as they being made out in the light of the really stupid things being taken issue with. I'm still keeping my interest vested in the title until I hear valid complaints from someone interested in PLAYING a game rather than watching characters talk to each other or aren't so concerned how may hi-oogie-boogies are in it.

I advise you watch the videos posted then. Its like Legendia for the DS but even more shallow.

Well, they did delay it numerous times.  Grin

I cancelled by preorder (pick it up when it's £5, just for collection purposes), I was happy for a portable main Tales, but this doesn't sound like a Tales game.

Telling me it's like Legendia is only going to make me want it more (as long as it doesn't have the stupid "repeat the entire game twice" crap in it).

12 hours long, no replay value, and simplistic gameplay. It's like Final Fantasy Mystic Quest all over again! I'm not a beginner.

I like my Tales having deep combat... the combat system is the main reason why I got into this series.

And you're coming to this conclusion from a single post from someone who was obviously more concerned with the number of oogie-boogies and skits in the game than the actual core gameplay? I'm not saying the game is probably awesome.. but it seems like people here are jumping to a quick, rock-solid conclusion based on one person's opinion.

Hell, the Famitsu review PRAISED the battle system and said the three line combat made it more action oriented, which is what the Tales series has been about to me. If you took out the action the whole series would be a color-by-numbers, sub-standard, generic RPG conventions series.

Watch the videos Cheesy All you do is flank them but not even as good as ToR and just mash away. Hence the Legendia comment. Theres no real strategy or depth involved.

I don't have much faith in a title not produced by the real Tales teams. They've done me wrong with every spinoff I've played as well as Legendia.

Now that the game is reported to be about 12 hours in length, having virtually ZERO replay value, and with reports of it being shallow compared to other installments, it all doesn't give me much confidence in dropping $50 on it.

Indeed. Watch that battle with Albert... ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzz, the guy doesn't even move.

There is NO Grade either -- screams LAZY to me. I hope this game bombs, badly. Efforts like this should NOT be encouraged.

I'm beginning to actually believe 7/7/7/7 from Famitsu means -- This game sucks but we can't flat out say it does because of you know what.

It happened with FFVII: DoC afterall.
