Score: 28/40 (7/7/7/7)

Lowest scored main entry that isn't a port, IIRC.

Do they give anything besides numbers? Seems kind of useless.

What are the scores of the other games?

I don't remember them all, but I'm very certain they rarely go below 32... maybe someone else can fill.

Destiny- 32
Destiny 2- 33
Symphonia- 34
Legendia- 32
Abyss- 35... or 36

They complained about the encounter rate being too low, the graphics being bad, the online stuff unnecessary, but strangely enough, the review WAS positive. I suppose they couldn't flat-out say the game was pretty bad like the score would imply and for obvious reasons too. Tongue

Aww, too bad.

Anyone know what they said about the battle system?

Ouch, that score stings... at least they had something positive to say about it. I'm still going to get it, though. Anything said about the story? I have a very strong feeling that Caius' dad is going to be the final boss... just a hunch.

I don't put too much stock into famitsu's review scores honestly. They gave Phantasia PSX a 29/40 and that game was totally not deserving of that score back when that game was still relevant (late 98). Maybe it got docked for being a remake of a game that was only 3 years old at the time. *shrug*

Also, some people might consider a 7/10 a "good" score but all too often when reviewers score a game out of 10 they tend to reserve the lower end of the scale to games that are jokes to humanity (like Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing). '5' doesn't end up looking like an 'average' but rather more like a  "flush it" score. '7' ends up feeling like a more realistic average.

I'm of the opinion that Famitsu is one of the biggest offenders of using the 10 scale like that.

They said the battle system was good and that the three line system makes the game more action oriented, but that the AI is terrible (they always complain about AI, so nothing new). There's a scan of the review floating around the web.

Also said the music was well composed, but the volume is too low. They also said the world map was too large. Also complained about the lack of a challenge and iffy camera angles.

It's not like many people had extremely high hopes for it in the first place. Given all the delays, it almost seemed like they wanted to cancel it and realized they had so much done early on =P.

Has anyone checked the Official Site over at Tales Channel though? The newest two characters don't look Inomata at all, they look like they came right over from Disgaea...

Yeah, they do, don't they... They remind me of the Rokujinshou from Abyss actually... Albert has that same Asch expression...

I'm not seeing a similarity to NIS' current art style with the new characters... at all. But they're definitely not Inomata.

Looks to me like they were drawn by Okumura. The color style matches that of SamoRine characters, ToS subcharacters, and the original versions of the Rokujinshou art. They weren't necessarily designed by Okumura but were perhaps doodled up by Inomata and drawn into a nice color picture by Okumura (which I assume was the case with the Rokujinshou, since Okumura wasn't credited for anything in ToA and they were later recolored).

Eh? Okumura is credited as Art Director and Lead Designer in Abyss, and I recall a pre-release interview somewhere where he stated that Abyss is his biggest work so far and he paid special attention to all those (game engine) cut scenes (hope I can find it again. Edit: here it is).

Oh, right. I forgot about that since I was just thinking about how he wasn't credited for subcharacter design.
