Hello,

I'm tooling around with Tales of the Tempest, and found that all of the .mes files contained uncompressed Shift-JIS text.

for example:
http://audigy.ath.cx:811/mes/p_house.mes.html (change text encoding to Japanese:Shift-JIS)

Has anyone checked into this?  I don't have a DS flashkit, or I'd get to hackin' Smiley

I'm of course holding out hope that TotT will be released in English, but... if there are plans for it, Nintendo/Namco are sure being quiet about it.

(original) thread derailed at first reply... Roll Eyes

Anyways, I haven't looked into this game.

The game's title is trademarked with the USPTO, so I kind of half expect it to make it over anyway.

THREAD REVIVAL

hey guys right now I'm working with this game and well i have hit a kind of slump only a real programmer can get thru(i can program but yeah...) Nways i hope that you guys would be interested in this game at least some. It has been a while since this thread has been used(yeah umm 3 years haha) and well i am replying because its basically the same thing that i would be talking bout. I have done some basic tile editing and here is my result:
.

The game is kind of hard to hack considering it doesn't use the regular font type deal. IF anyone is interested please let me know. I'm still trying to research how to do it by myself but if would be nice to get some help from some of you Smiley

Tempest is a yucky game. It needs a lot of work done for a good job at a translation to be done.
Either way, I don't really think it's worth it. It's not the greatest of Tales games. It pales in every aspect in comparison to other ones.

Even so its still a tales game and it has a good feel to it even though the story as many say sucks. I would still like to play this in English... And right now if anyone knows i need a .nbm editor for the menu files. I already figured where all the name text and tiles are so i was able to do this:

I just need to make the tiles smaller and make them recognizable with the half size alphanumerical letters. It still needs a lot of work and if i'm the only one working on it thats fine but i would like some help or at least to point me in the right direction for changing the Font size and making it recognizable to the hex editor so that when i input the letter it appears in game instead of being empty(btw the name actually has this HAVEN) but it can't recognize the half size... if anyone has any ideas please let me know thanks Smiley

Edit: so i guess i need some help with insertin VWF into the game since it doesn't have it.
