I suppose this may be trivial but it's something that came to mind...

Okay, so we assume that the worlds will be joined together, but will the continents be arranged to their positions in ToP? Or will they be scattered around? (so we could assume that there may be some continental drift)

Or, if they ARE arranged to ToP's positions, are people in Iselia going to complain how hot it's getting and people in Meltokio complaining about how cold it's getting? Iselia's continent is entirely desert in ToP and Meltokio is frozen...

edit: umm.. Iselia would be getting hot, not cold.

I should hope so, on both accounts. (I thought continental drift took really really long.)

Well, that's what logic would say but this is a fantasy game so you never know.

it's theoretically possible that some celestial bodies in the real universe would have some very active plate tectonics, but then... but I'd assume those places would be very geologically active. I sure don't remember any "natural"earthquakes in ToS or ToP, but who knows.`

another edit: also, that's assuming there's really a 4000-year divide between series. I'd say the biggest plot hole between the game's landmasses is that the fact that the Venezia/Palmacosta continent is much, much larger in Symphonia than it was in Phantasia. The only thing that makes partial sense is if they wanted to increase the scale of the continent, but then that's inconsistent with the proportions of the others.

I guess there had to be something to reshape Meltokio/Ary as much and get rid of Katz Island.

...why the hell is the Iselia/Triet/Izoold continent entirely green? And the desert's well... not where you'd expect it either.

*Laughs*  Let's hope that this is just a mistake they made...  Sure, a world map can drastically change over several thousand years, but I don't think a 2 year difference would shift the world climate so dramatically.  Well, here's to hoping for oversight over retconning.  With changes that drastic, they'd have to remake Phantasia... again.  You know what they say, 5th time's the charm.  Wait... do they say that?

Eh? Did you finish ToS? The continents were supernaturally rearranged in a span of 55 seconds. If nearly every piece of land is suddenly thrown to totally different part of the globe (is the globe even the same size? Probably not), pretty much everything that makes up climate is going to instantly be different, thus the climate itself will be different. How could such a big difference not be shown two years later?

Besides... Spirits have an impact on climate. :p I assume Efreet is now in the will-someday-be-Midgard area.

Assuming there are still mountains and they're just blending in with the grass on the picture (appears to be the case judging by the scan Cless posted)... and not necessarily everything was put into the new planet at the same sea level of the planet it left... everything looks about right. Except maybe Meltokio (and Katz).

Speaking of retconning, has anyone actually paid close enough attention to ToP-PSP's storyline to make sure they didn't?

That's how the Iselia/Triet/Izoold continent should be. I had assumed it was a plot hole in ToS that it was desert, because ToP says it used to be green. But this fixes it.

It looks closer if you compare the PSX version map instead. The map you posted is based on the SFC version, which is stretched out vertically by comparison. Here's a ToP-PSX map and rearranged ToS map for comparison.

Anybody able to provide a translation of the new scan? The bottom right seems to be saying something regarding the Wii remote and the Nunchuck. I think there also something about Palmacoasta under Emil.

Here's the box under Emil:
Quote
新生パルマコスタで起こった”血の粛清”で両親を失った少年。素直の性格だが、自分の意思で決断を下すことは苦手。マルタを守るために、”ラタトスクの騎士”として契約を交わす。

A young man who lost his parents in the "Purge of Blood" that happened in the reborn Palmacosta. He has a humble personality, but he doesn't like making his own decisions. He makes a pact as a "knight of Ratatosk" to protect Marta.
(Not sure about that second sentence.)

Dear Lord, what was I on when I posted that?  My apologies, I'll take more care to have my head screwed on correctly before posting from now on.  It's been a long time since I played Symphonia, but for me to make a mistake like that is ridiculous.  The maps you posted helped me straighten myself out.  *Shakes head*

one thing is, the character and enemy models in those screens look kinda low res. it's kind of weird... shouldn't the Wii be way more powerful than the GC and especially the PS2? then how come it looks like i'm looking at a PS2 game?

Low res Models? like... textures? or do you mean low polycounts?

Well Namco talked about the textures being better than Symphonia GC was.

Still... It's obviously not a game that pushes the system, or even tries to (symphonia didn't push GC either for that matter) but still although it was scaleable back into the PS2 managed to run better on GC, from what I've seen from this game it would be no hassle to run on the GC, I wouldn't even be surprised if they were using GC devkits Tongue

But I'm grateful a Tales game is coming my way, and I hope that others follow after. I wonder what happened to Sword of Legendia though, and when will we get a "real Tales" game on a home console after this one. But I feel Namco is testing the market.

Still they should invest more tech-wise, into this game, I'm perfectly fine with it, but at least put some detail in those shadows.
