Ugh, where to start, oh, yeah, let's start by the fact the version in question should be called Tales of Phailtasia  Tongue

The script was badly translated, the sound is watered down, the color palette wasn't adjusted for the GBA making the game very bright, encounter rate and game balance are screwed (way easier than the original), severe framerate issues while in combat, the backdrops are from the PSone version and badly converted unlike the original version ones who rocked and were pixel work (PSone backdrops are fine for PSone, but the kind of shrinking to fit they did it's just stupid) sprites look bad and lack the detail the original ones did, Namco US actually did put the overworld map as the opening music... it sucks.
P.S: How came Innocence didn't reach the states?
Namco USA is run by a bunch of morons, that's how it came to be.

That sucks major dong. Besides, if they somehow release Rebirth PSP(that and every other Tales cept Tempest) they'd probably never hear from me again.

the color palette wasn't adjusted for the GBA making the game very bright,

actually, it WAS adjusted (supposedly for the non-backlit original GBA), which is why it's so bright. i think the US version tones down the brightness a bit... either that, or the EU version, i forget.

Other than the kangaroo thing, here's something pretty failtacular about the GBA translation:

Arche: "It's full of treasure..."
Arche: "Wow!"
*they split up to open treasure boxes*
Cless: "That's it!"
Klarth: "Really!?"
Klarth: "It's just a ring..."
Arche: "A ring!"
Mint: "There's another one here."
Cless: "But, this...it's breaking..."
Klarth: "What about the other one?"
Mint: "The other one's not a ring." (WTF??)
Arche: "What should we do?"
Klarth: "My power's not enough." (for what???)
Klarth: "We should probably go back to Alvanista."

My PSX script currently has this as...

Arche: "Wow, we hit the jackpot!<3"
Arche: "This is great!"
*they split up to open treasure boxes*
Cless: "Found something!"
Klarth: "Really!?"
Klarth: "......"
Klarth: "Uhh... These are pretty ordinary trinkets."
Klarth: "No pact ring here."
Arche: "Oooh, oooh! I found a ring!"
Mint: "I have found one as well."
Cless: "But they're...broken..."
Klarth: "Are there any others?"
Mint: "I'm afraid that was the only ring I could find."
Klarth: "......"
Arche: "Whadda we do about them?"
Klarth: "I can't fix them..."
Klarth: "We should probably return to Alvanista. Someone there might be able to help..."

The GBA one is extremely confusing. However I don't know if there are any major differences between the Japanese scripts. I should note that the "My power's not enough" is a pretty literal translation, and my version is a pretty liberal reinterpretation.

One thing that bothers me greatly is how the game in Japanese tends to refer to the broken rings you get here as a singular ring. Even the menu is suggestive with one ring. I don't know what happened there, because in the end, two rings get repaired.

These things really make me wonder if any company ever takes the time to spellcheck. What they should have done is hire you guys . At least you guys know what you're doing. Symphonia was awesome but they put little care with Phantasia. Any more fail in the script?

P.S: Where did the skits go? Japan only?

P.S.S: Regarding PSP hacking. I found an emu that has debug features. Bad news, it can't play most games since the creator had no time anymore. He/She left the source code.....and no one's worked on it.

Tales of Phantasia GBA never had skits, even in the Japanese version. Only the PlayStation and PSP versions of the game had them.

If you played the ps1 version you wouldn't need to ask this question.
