I'm amazed you're the only one who called us out on it immediately. Even though there's no project going on now, what do you think of the name changes?

To be honest, I was certain it was your group that made that screenshot. (Proven by the fact I'm lurking here at all. =P ) There is no other group that would have the interest in translating a Tales game, besides Phantasian Productions which has its hands tied to other projects at this point.
I have to admit, it caused quite a bit of talk on other sites though, especially since someone decided to say that this might be real without waiting for more evidence. It may have caused some people to accept those name changes more readily as well, since it was publicized as a real localization, and everyone was willing to accept whatever they chose as fact. Rather interesting reactions.
It really doesn't matter to me what names are chosen though. This game allows names to be changed, from what I have heard, so it won't be an issue if they stay as romanized or not. And even then, people who really care about the name to make it a game-breaking issue could just not use the patch. I'm just amused at how little things like this can cause problems for some people.
So, was this just an experiment to see how people would react to news of a patch for this game? Or do you really plan to make a translation patch for this? I think it's too early to make one, what with all the talk about the chances for this game coming to North America being higher than most other games, but if you have the time for it, then good luck.
EDIT - Just saw the blog post, so yeah, you don't need to answer me anymore on this. Always interesting how things don't turn out the way you intend, when it comes to the spread of info through online sources... haha.

This is the long answer.
The short answer is that the goal was to increase interest in Tales of Hearts. We're not currently working on a project nor do we intend to in the near future. I'm still hoping that Namdai will localize the game. I'm not looking to translate games that have a chance of being officially localized. If all hope is lost for an official release, then perhaps I'll consider a project.
EDIT: I am too slow.

ehh, it was kind of obvious when i noticed that the font was not the built-in in-game font, aka someone with pretty decent NDS hacking skills did it. hmmmmmmmm.
then i looked again and noticed it's exactly the same as your ToI font
i'm a bit split on the names thing -- on one hand, it's a total renaming of a tales character. on the other hand, it's a
translation
of a tales character's name, when the meaning is veiguely important AND the names sound natural in english. well, they would, at least, if not for our dear colonel curtiss and TEH NEGAVERSE.
and yeah, i figured it would be a concept shot. ToH still has a chance of being picked up for reals (anime or CG?), plus you'd probably want to finish with ToI first. at most i figured you might do a quick cybergoth in the unfortunate case that bamco confirms that ToH isn't coming.

TEH NEGAVERSE.
*Laughs* I'm glad I wasn't the only one amused by that. It was all the more reason to go with Jadeite. Have to stop those damn Sailor Scouts, you know?

I second this. It's admittedly given me a guilty pleasure kind of hope for this game to get officially localised, especially with these names.

Well, well... What a disaster for the CG version. Outsold over 7 to 1 with the anime version. I wonder how many of those 16,900 were just hardcore collectors buying both.
Anime - 123,600 / NEW
CG - 16,900 / NEW
Still crappy sales for a mainline installment. I wonder if the series will ever recover. The cow's drying up, unless they're actually satisifed with results like these. The damage might already be done, though.
Apparently these numbers are only like 19k higher than the first day sales, so this game probably won't have much for sales legs. Maybe it'll get lucky and reach 200k lifetime, but that's only 50k more than Vesperia!

well, not exactly a surprise, what with tales games being pumped out so fast. i'd say 200k ought to be considered impressive at this point.

Honestly, I'm not surprised. Even though it's on the most popular platform atm, it's still... a Tales game, and Tales games are made everyday.
These poor sales are Namco's own fault for milking the series until they could no more. >_>
What does worry me is that these poor sales might make a localization even less likely... that is, if there's still any chances of that happening.
I wonder how much a mainline installment would sell if there hadn't been any new games in the series for a few years before it.

Half of me is glad to see the CG version sold that badly (I've hated it from day one), but the other half is disappointed that total sales are that low. Guess there's little chance we'll ever see an official localization. I should probably make the effort to a get a flash card for my DS.

Fwahahaha! Take that CG Verison! *kisses copy of the anime verison*
Though yeah, too bad those sales aren't the highest... But I agree it's namco's fault for milkin' the series for all it's worth.
I'm pretty much burned out on 3D tales of games now. Though when/if Vesperia comes to PS3 I'll pick it up, seeing as people seem to be enjoying that one, and Yuri is loved by so many fans.
For now, I'm just stickin' with the Team Destiny games, and their sweet sweet 2D goodness-ness.

Too bad about the sales. I wasn't really at all surprised that the cg version isn't selling as well. Just got an xbox for Christmas so I just can't wait to get a copy of tales of vesperia
