So is it safe to say that 2D Tales of Games sell more than 3D?

Heh. The history for the Team Symphonia ones is too weird. All but one (Abyss) has started off on one platform only to be ported over to another. Abyss outsold Rebirth very slightly in the end. However, that can probably be attributed to the fact that Abyss got a The Best re-release while Rebirth did not (for some reason that was never given).

The point is that the numbers look very sad compared to a recent year-old port on another platform.
well, we could argue that the fact a "recent" as in months old port would hamper the sales of another mothership tales, since nobody got it the first time around but they did the second time. That and the fact FFXIII released 2 weeks afterwards.

I think people are overeacting regarding the product sales tbh, and I'm eager to see the sales for this one when it reaches a year in the market. Not making predictions here, but I hope it has legs.
Graces is looking outright pathetic. Not only that, but it's still being beaten by a semi-recent PSP spinoff. Spinoff.
A spin-off whose first week outsold Tales of Innocence, Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World, Tales of Vesperia X360, Tales of Hearts... Don't make it sound like you're talking about "any" spin-off, because quite honestly that one sold like mad.

If your point was that PSP deserved a mothership Tales of already though, then I agree, with all the ports and spin-off's/dungeon crawlers they developed a userbase for Tales of games in there, so they should give in for a actual original game for it.
If Graces continues to do only marginally better than DotNW, I'm not going to think of it as any sort of significant "victory" over just ToV 360, either. It'll just become more and more clear that at least 1/3 to 1/2 of the established series fanbase refuses to budge from Sony hardware, while the rest are just very hardcore and will follow the series wherever it may go, or just pick up titles for other platforms they may already incidentally own. For the latter, it's far more likely to be a Wii than an Xbox 360.
Perhaps so, there's bound to be a core userbase for the titles in Japan, and considering Sony has leaded since PSone days there it's only natural to see some of them attached to it, which was one of the reasons ToV X360 failed to push hardware sales and met resistance. I don't think that should be the case with the Wii though, since it's niponic hardware and one with installed userbase, even if some are attached to PS3/PSP alone; RPG's tend to be big games, they demand a lot of man hours to be put into them and everyone in Japan who likes RPG's must be playing FFXIII now; a lot of them, with ToG coming out 2 weeks prior possibly had to make a choice. I know I've often putted down the purchase of a RPG for another, when the two of them are coming out at the same time.

I don't think that's just me, nor do I think we could argue FFXIII isn't the "big thing", sadly.

TS' former leads programmers are now in a small R&D team which was even credited in TD's ToG. I guess that's why.

Regarding Rebirth's lack of a The Best re-release, one would assume this increases potential sales of a port. But the ToR PSP port still managed to do only a meager 83,016, I'm pretty sure that stopped the streak of ports to PSP as well as any possibility of a "mothership" to be done for it.

The PSP version is getting The Best re-release.

Anyway, I hear Graces' story is less generic than the previous titles.

wow, i seem to always be in the dark about things... What exactly is "The Best re-release" thing? is it an award to a game or something? also, by the way that the discussion is going, since the sales for ToG aren't that good, should i be shocked when i find out that it won't be localized?

btw, thanks Cless Aileron for answering my questions!

The Best re-releases are Japan's equivalent to America's PS2/PS3 Greatest Hits. When a game sells like hotcakes in a short amount of time, it will be re-released at a cheaper price. For example: Final Fantasy 12 costed like $50 and the Greatest Hits re-release costs $20.

Dimentionalist, do you know how those screenshots were taken?  If you look at the one from battle that I posted in the HD RPG thread, they look quite different...

If they're from dolphin, I guess it could be that anti aliasing wasn't on?  I'm curious cause the image I posted  seems to just be a hell of a lot softer.

why would you use them here? the quality loss from using high-quality jpgs will be unnoticeable and you won't have to sit around downloading 2-3 MB pngs while imageshack gets pissed at you for hotlinking HUEG images.

you don't upload your photos to flickr or facebook or whatever as png, do you?

Er, well, I use them simply because that's the default format for the print screen button in windows.  About the file size thing, that's why I use imagevenue, they don't really care about file size.  Granted, you're right, they could certainly take a while to load.  And yeah, I mean, if I'm uploading a screen capture to facebook/flickr, I still do use PNG.

I'm hoping by HUEG you mean huge, and that I'm not missing something entirely.

are you using an add-on program? by default, print screen in windows copies your display to the clipboard. from there, you have to paste it into some sort of image editing program and then choose which file type to save as.

Hah, whoops, there I go with the absent mindedness again.
You're entirely right, I was opening them in paint without thinking and not changing the format from PNG.

Well then. That's embarrassing.
