Inomata is in the copyright on that page, so she's definitively doing it.

Absolutely beautiful. Sure owns Dawn of the New World, that's for sure.

Uses the "Style-shift Linear Motion Battle System", which lets you fight in two different ways. It's apparently accomplished via the B Button, and Artes are activated with A...? What the hell, how do you attack normally? Also, you can rotate around enemies in a circular motion, now, too... what about Free Run?

World Map is gone, the entire game is seamless.

Finally, true innovation in a 3D Tales game!

And shouldn't this topic get a title change =P?

Well, it's for the Wii, so surely the only reasonable thing would to attack with WAGGLE. I'll laugh my ass off it that's actually the case.

I guess the whole seamless concept is pretty cool.

Lhant is a weird looking name. Rhant looks more like a name to me, but considering some of the garbage recently, I'll certainly not complain about it.

That's a totally new joke right there... At the event they actually promoted the upcoming Classic Controller PRO as being compatible and recommended.

Come on, nobody takes shots at the Wii with originality in mind. I guess I can make a serious post if you want...

Regardless of what they recommend, I can't imagine that Nintendo would let them release it without a Wiimote+Nunchuck control scheme. Looking at that 3rd picture from the bottom, I see a Wiimote icon and the B button, so it doesn't seem totally out of line to think there might be some waggle involved.

I don't have all the information about the event, so I can only speculate based on what I see in these images.

*stuff about battle system*

...not Free Run. PLEASE.

Also, unsheathing sword with wiimote anyone? Tongue

World Map is gone, the entire game is seamless.

If this means something similar to Dragon Quest VIII and Wild ARMs 5 (as in: a seamless world that really feels like a WORLD, and still retains the cool hidden stuff I love the old style world maps for), I'm all for it.

On the other hand, if it's like Final Fantasy 10/12 and Rogue Galaxy (a world that feels like a bunch of towns and dungeons lumped together with nothing to separate them), then let me be the first to send them a big "f*ck you" for screwing up one of the things I liked the most about Tales games.

I'll still miss the old world map in either case, though. Hope at least Team Symphonia keeps it. Games with that kind of map are so scarce nowadays...

Hee...  It looks beautiful ~  And I hope they change it to Rhant later on.  =o=;;  I thought they would learn what romanization works and doesn't work. >o>;;

I think perhaps I was asking the wrong question before. I'm not sure I entirely understand this battle system.

...not Free Run. PLEASE.

Why do some Tales fans hate Free Run? It's a great feature, and it can practically be ignored if you want.

Anyways, this Shift-Style LIMBS seems to imply moving left and right in a linear fashion and pushing a button to "circle" enemies, kind of like a 3D fighting game. Sounds cool. I don't understand the "different attack styles," though. (Maybe it's new take on the old Slash/Thrust mechanic?)

Whether it's like DQ8 (preferable) or FF12, I think the seamless World Map is a nice thing for the series to try. This game in general is looking a lot better than I thought it would, and if it uses the classic controller I'm definitely sold.

That control scheme is confirmed as well (no idea if including pointer and/or position/force detection), otherwise the classic controller wouldn't be a recommendation but forced...

...not Free Run. PLEASE.

As far as I understood the info so far there is no single mention of free run at all so far. The side stepping mechanic (allowing to circle around the targeted enemy) basically would replace it completely. This is how I'd have preferred a 3D Tales battle system from the very beginning, so this better be well implemented. But since this by all indications seems to be the game by the lead Team Destiny staff I'm positive it will be good.

Ignoring it is the only reason I'm able to enjoy Abyss's battle system. Even so, the fact that it's there still bothers me quite a bit.

As for it being a great feature... eh, I believe this has been discussed a million times here and everywhere else, so there's no need for me to go into detail. I'll just repeat something I just said to someone in a PM: to me, Free Run is pointless, unnecessary and makes the whole idea of a "linear motion system" completely useless.

Anyway, it's as Datschge said; I gave it some thought and it does seem like sidestepping could work well and not be nearly as abusable as Free Run. That's the main thing that worries me: abuse. Though judging by Team Destiny's past record, chances are even if this game is broken as hell, it won't feel broken at all. Tongue

The only game I know of with ultra broken free run was Abyss, because it was the first game that featured it and the kinks hadn't been ironed out yet. It's far less abusable in every game I've played that followed it.

Abyss is the only game with free run I played, so all my complaints are based on it. Naturally the feature must have been tweaked and improved for Vesperia and... wait, wasn't it only these two? Did Innocence have free run as well?

IIRC a major part of Abyss' free run brokenness was because of how fast you could eventually move around in that game, aside from a general enemy AI that I guess seemed largely unchanged from Symphonia, and thus didn't really take free run into consideration all that much.

Vesperia's movement rate at least, is only affected by the agility stat, but it doesn't really make much of a fundamental difference even at high levels compared to low levels. There are some cooking recipes that can raise it by ridiculous amounts that DO make a notable difference, but that's only one battle per use. Cooking for anything other than HP/TP always seemed pointless anyway.
