Personally, I'm actually interested in ToP: FVE more than Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology. Strange as that may sound, I'm looking forward to see what other improvements they've added to the battle system aside from bigger sprites that seem to be taken from ND3. There's none that I saw from the screens, but then again, the game was announced a few weeks ago, so...
I'm also excited to hear the voices and how they capture some of the more emotional moments of the game. And on another note... is there any chance we'd see a cameo or two in the arena ?

 Undecided

The ToD remake looks very nice. I liked how the camera panned around in the trailer's environments, and I don't recall much of that in ToD2J (or ToR, but I haven't beaten either of those yet... both are "in-progress" for me). Does anyone else thing these have the greatest-looking sprites in the series. I was so astonished when I saw that first screen posted on the Tales Channel Home on June 20 (fighting against what looked like those wacky energy crystals from one of the opening dungeons, IIRC).  Roll Eyes

Given that Lilith and Dymlos (technically on the latter) got a cameo in the arena in ToP-PSX, I'd wager that we'll see their return in FVE. It'd be pretty nice to see more cameos though, yeah... I wouldn't put it past Namco to pop a blatantly ToS-original cameo/reference in there somewhere; I'd laugh if they added something about what happened to Yuan.

In FVE, Yuan discovers that his name should probably be Ewan Shocked

The environments in ToD2J and ToR were 2D, where as the ToD remake has 3D enviroments.

I checked Rebirth over the weekend and I'm pretty sure the weapons there are 3D models. It's hard to tell because they (rightfully) don't animate smoother than they would have if they had been 2D. If they use the same effect in Destiny it should be a problem.

LOL!
I think that ToD2s battle system could have been almost twice as good if there was no pentaly for surrounding the enemies, and also if physical damage wasn't so insignificant compared to magic. Always fighting from left to right made battles feel repetitive, and it alwyas felt like physical attacks were not doing anything. Alsomt as though physical fighters were just occupying the enemies and taking hits while the spellcasters prepared thier magic.

Ugh... just today, as I was fighting

*SPOILERS*

Elraine, and she

*END SPOILERS*

cornered my casters and Kyle. I was playing as Judas and since I was liable to be hit when in front of the boss in the corner, I jumped behind the boss. The boss kept knocking me back when I approached her for my physical techs, so I spammed Negative Gate (it seemed to be doing a decent ammount of damage)...with a halved TP/SP bar. I kept having to use gummies on myself as well as everyone else, since Loni was too busy being beaten into that corner to heal. I eventually finished the fight with just myself and Kyle alive (since everyone else would continue to die, I saved my life bottles until the end of the fight to make sure they got experience... Kyle FINALLY decided to get into SBM and finish the boss off with Souryuu Metsugazan.

My biggest gripe with that is it's a pain in the ass to deal with sell casters in the back row (not to mention that even a well-timed spirit guard seems to only catch a third of any spell cast upon you). It's hard enough to get back there with a melee character as is and then your severely crippled if you mange it. My favorite new "move" in Legendia was pressing down to dash past an enemy, allowing you to go right for those pesky lamias!

My physical damage doesn't seem as watered down as I've read about (though 80% is still done by the spells).. espeically in the end of the game where EVERY enemy has 5 or 6 of 6 resistances that you have a weapon with no element propeties on it.

I was looking at preordering Tales of Destiny's remake today, but I'm having a hard time stomaching the $72 price tag.  I really want the game, but I was curious, does anyone know about this extra DVD it comes with?  It's called Orange Gumi (or Gummy) and I don't really know anything about it.  I just saw it listed as an extra.  Is this a preorder bonus?  Or is it something that's included with every copy of the game?  And more importantly, what is it?

Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

It is a pre-order bonus.

Ask Shinryu for more details, he got the Apple Gummi DVD for pre-ordering Tales of Phantasia FVE.

It's a preorder bonus, and it's similar to the Apple Gumi DVD that came with ToP:FVE, basically it includes a chat drama featuring Tales characters.

I've never had one though, so maybe someone could explain if there's anything else besides that.

Well they're adding Leon's story from the drama cd.  Doesn't he survive after Libra IV in that version and fight witht he group agian?  It seems like thats what people are saying.

If there is a "Leon lives!" branch I sure hope it doesn't suffer from Suzu Syndrome. She felt so horribly tacked onto the PSX version of ToP (and following versions) that it was kinda ridiculous..,

It shouldn't be.  All they have to do is make him betray Hugo at some point.  I remember there was a good point for it, but I can't remember where, or maybe I'm crazy.  Anyways, Suzu was added off of a sidequest, so no wonder she felt tacked on.

On another note, does anyone know when we can preorder Radiant Mythology?

I personally would like to see them replace that dark Leon you fight at the end with a dark Hugo for the Leon branch.

The game's almost as easy as Destiny 1.

Slash-Kogahazan-Maou Engekiha...Rinse, lather, repeat. XD

As for the remake, I'd like it if the story is less linear. (ie Choices affecting the outcome more) It gives more of a replay value. Tongue

I had a ToP PSP question, so I'm bringing back this thread.  I'm afraid to read this whole thread for fear of ToD spoilers, so forgive me if this question has already been answered.

Does anyone who owns this game know if the script is the same as the PSX version?  Are there additional sidequests or events?  What about additional monsters in the beastiary?  I'm basically just curious what the final word is on the changes to the game in terms of script and other elements from someone who has played it or someone who knows.

Thanks.
