As of the end of March 2006, (rounded) sales:

Tales of Legendia: 37k
Tales of Phantasia 22k

I find it utterly amazing that Phantasia did worse than Legendia did in its first month. Also, much, much, much worse than I expected. Packaging that ad with a Final Fantasy game sure didn't seem to do much for it.

However, RPG sales seem to be down all around, so it's not just Tales suffering:

Wild ARMs 4: 35k
Shadow Hearts 3: 30k
Grandia 3: 70k (Square Enix)
MS Saga: 10k (ow)
Suikoden 5: 8k (O_o)

Well. Legendia can at least claim that it sold better than pretty much every JRPG that wasn't published by Square Enix. That's a feat... right???? D:

Still praying for Abyss. That game just has me hella nervous for some reason.

Oh. And North American sales for Symphonia are apparently at 440k now.

Too bad. Understandable though; neither ToP-GBA nor ToL is terribly attractive to most people.

...Did ToS sell more since ToL's release than ToL did?

Cyllya predicts:
--Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World will reveal that Ratatosk was involved in ToS's last required scene in Heimdall.
--Tales of Vesperia's plot will involve space aliens in some way

I'm amazed about Tales of Phantasia GBA doing worse than Tales of Legendia myself, especially since more people made a big deal over Tales of Phantasia GBA than Tales of Legendia.

Either way, Cyllya summed up the possiblity about why they didn't do well the best way.

To be fair, Suikoden 5 came out a little late in the month (the 21st), but MS Saga came out on the 21st of Feb. But who knows, we'll just have to wait for April's NPD numbers. If anyone bothers to mention them.

Makes you wonder what GBA owners were buying that month since the platform outsold both DS and PSP.

I expected a Nintendo published game to do much better than that. Oh well, if it's consistent, it could stall at 100K.

Well,my own thoughts, as an average, non-square fan consumer:

Grandia 3: G 1+2 were great, so trying to forget GX-treme and hoping a *real* Grandia title might bring back the good old days
Outcome: Bought, horribly dissapointed

Suikoden: Suikoden 4 wasn't so hot, and 5 came out rather quick, and with a few other titles as well.. but still an old fan of the series
Outcome: Bought, never opened

Tales of Legendria: The character art look horrid, and was wanted a lot of Tales games, none of which got released, so it was like the 'leftovers' they thought was suitable for domestic release, so I really had no interest in it.
Outcome: Bought as an afterthought/ tide-over until another release, QUITE better then I was expecting

Tales of Phantasia: heard it wasn;t a great port and ran slow (fact/fiction?), but, portable, legitamate ToP. I looked on the back and got disgusted that they were more super-deformed then even the super deformed beginnings.
Outcome: Didn't care to get it

MS Saga: never heard of it, at all. Looked to have some promise, but thought it might just be for Gundam fanatics.
Outcome: Was tempeted until I saw the ESRB kiddy rating, ruling out a lot of the drama I like.

Wild Arms 4: Wild arms 3 was boring (the into chapters were cool, though), and the series has never been strong on character development/relations/etc.
Outcome: Didn't care

Shadow Hearts3: I like shadow hearts, but never started the second, amd didn;'tt like the changeup.
Outcome: passed over

So that's how it happend for me, sales are made of many little stories like that. Square-enix fandom is the most profitable thing going these days, sadly

Interesting final thought, Phren.
Its true that theyre probably the most reputable to rely on (hell, Im eager for FF12 myself), but also Im getting to that age where it take a bit more for me to buy a game.

Lol, Symphonia sold more than Legendia.

I'm really beginning to think Symphonia might top 500K when it's all said and done, it's not Player's choice yet is it?

Phantasia/Legendia sales are really discouraging. I hope Abyss can at least manage 200K. That should be enough to bring future Tales titles. I hope.

It's been Player's Choice for a little over a year now.

This ToP GBA news is new to me, but then again, I hadn't paid attention to its boards much on GameFAQs. Still, it's nice to know Symphonia is at 440k now... I never expected it to outsell the JP GC counterpart given the series obscurity in the US prior to release in the US, but I ended up being wrong.
