Yes, I studied the game for a while about 1-2 years ago. I found out that the GC and Ps2 versions share pretty much the same file formats, except for the processor stuff, like numeric variables (which are not inverted for the GC, since it uses a Big-Endian processor) and compression. It could be possible to port ALL the data from a version to another, but yeah, it would also need some ASM work for implementing a proper VWF and for other impossible-to-do-otherwise hacks. But I'm pretty sure it's doable, so maybe, one day, when PCSX2 will be decent (i.e. complete debugger) and fast enough I might reconsider the idea to port the translation to the Ps2.

Well, at least it is a project that someone will be counting on  Smiley, since I lost hope for Symphonia´s patches due to the fact that no one ever mentioned it. But I imagine that by the time we get Destiny 2 translated there will be much more resources to play with and hack better. Grin

Well for me, that's because I don't like the PS2 version of the game, and don't think it's worth the effort to work on. As far as I'm concerned, the changes and additions aren't worth suffering through the technical problems it has compared to the GameCube original.

No need for a Translation anymore - except you Guys want to flick around with other hacks... :-/

Also... I dont have a gamecube... never wanted one... thus im quite happy the game finally made it into english territory.

I think you'll find the only English ToS is on GCN...

I'd imagine we would never see a PS2 english ToS due to licensing rights or something...

No, that is Ok, you are working on Phantasia and that is appreciated, but NO ONE attempted to hack it, so I thought it was impossible, now I know someone will do a hack someday (even though I dont expect a full-patch in years... Cry) But BTW, why do you say that there are SO many technical problems, I have PS2 Symphonia and... the only thing I noticed was that loading time has increased a bit (Mind you, most games nowadays have THAT long loading time FFXII, .Hack trylogy, TotA, even Odin Sphere) and that FPS is a bit lower in battle, apart from that I found the game very solid, and I found it very appealing, too bad it never came here *sob*

I guess these problems are easier to notice for someone who's used to the NGC version. I have only played the PS2 version, so I didn't suffer that much with them as well.

(maybe it's not the PS2 version that sucks, it's just the NGC one that's too good. lol)

I played the GameCube one as soon as I possibly could after it came out in the US and went through it twice, so I went into the PS2 version straight after coming off of it.

The framerate hit hurt the overall feel of the game for me, and I also found it somewhat harder to keep track of battles (thank god they fixed it in Abyss!). The loading times for everything are approximately 3 times longer than in the original, so they are worse than Abyss' in general if you don't have a hard drive to cut them down.

On top of that, the texture resolution was greatly decreased so the graphics have a blurry look to them. Unfortunately I lost the comparison screenshots I made.

I may as well add that the PS2 version is a completionist's nightmare because it takes even more playthroughs to get everything. With all the technical stuff that aggravates me about this port, I couldn't see myself having the patience for it.

Mmm the texture was blurry, that I noticed, and the FPS drop isnt that bad when you are accustomed playing Legendia (yeah, I actually took the time to play it) or .Hack Series, or Even FFXII, as I said those three games have those technical problems in common, that is true, but dI grew used to it in my 50th hour in FFXII...

About the completionist´s stuff, what did they add? Huh?

Considering the translation is already done, it would be a matter of months, not years.

But isnt it a bit too early? With the emulator not being able to fully emulate it could take some time Sad

Why would you need an emulator? It can be tested directly on real hardware using a simple HDD.

No kidding, and Symphonia's battle system is pretty much imo Eternia's with a worse Summoning System with the ability to change lines....so speed is really what made it fun for me, and the PS2 version kind of ruined that.
I found myself playing GC battles for fun over and over, while in the PS2 version it's kind of a chore. :/ I don't mind the loading times as much as the frame rate problems...

Yeah, the PS2's speed doesn't look that bad or seem that bad once you get used to it, but if you change to the GC version, there's a noticable difference....
