In both of these games, there are weapons that increase in power for each enemy you have killed.  In Symphonia, the Abyssion sidequest got you there and in Abyss, the Nibilim sidequest does the same.  But I'm still rather confused as to how these weapons work.  Is the number killed only BEFORE you defeat the secret boss?  Or do the weapons keep increasing in power even after you've obtained them?  Also, does the number of monsters killed transfer over to the next playthrough?  Or is the max power of the weapon locked down once you first complete the event?

I just don't know enough about these weapons.  For as much time as I had them in Symphonia, I could never figure it out.  Now I'm playing Abyss.  If I want them to be as powerful as possible, what's the best way to do it?  Thanks for anyone who can help me out here.

The weapons' damage is based on the number of kills the character has made at any time throughout that playthrough, either before or after the boss is defeated. It doesn't start doing damage with that number before you kill the boss, but it never locks until they reach maximum power.

Max power is apparently 5000 kills in ToS and 9999 kills in ToA. (One enemy killed is the equivelent of one attack point of attack stat. I think it's both physical and magic attack in ToA, but it's only physical attack in ToS.)

By default, it only counts for one playthrough, but you can carry the characters' kill count over to new playthroughs if you get the battle data from the Grade Shop (the same one that carries over number of encounters and highest combo, etc).

Awesome.  Thank you so much, that's exactly what I needed to know.  So in other words, if I want to build the power of the weapons, the best way is probably to defeat the boss and then use the weapons themselves to take out enemies quickly, right?

Yeah, if they're already more powerful than other weapons you have.

A lot of people like to spend time in areas with weak enemies to take out a bunch quickly. This was especially convinient in ToS.
