The perplexity of an absurd delusion.

This has been stirring in my mind for quite some time, but I was never quite able to articulate it...until now (hopefully).

Tales has almost-always had women of the three chest sizes. Phantasia, not really (Mint seemed big-ish, but Suzu and Arche were small). Destiny was a little weird because Mary's chest size was due to her height and build. There also doesn't seem to be any mention of Philia's chest (mostly it's about her glasses as her charm point). Chelsea was the token ironing board, and Rutee was somewhere in-between (not-insignificant, that's for sure).

Eternia does not adhere to this. Farah seems average-sized, and Chat and Meredy are both small/flat. Neither does Destiny 2. It's more like a small and two mediums.

Symphonia, definitely (2 small, 1 medium, and 1 large). Legendia (Norma-Chloe-Grune), Abyss (Anise-Natalia-Tear), Innocence (Hermana-Iria-Ange), Vesperia (Rita-Estelle-Judith), and Hearts (Beryl-Kohaku-Innes), as well. Rebirth is an interesting case, as the "medium" is Claire, and Annie's on the bigger end of small. You could also say that Mao is the small (since he's voiced by a woman and could possibly confuse certain players) and Annie is the medium. But that goes down a road we don't have to take.

I've never played Tempest, so I can't say, and I'm not sure about Graces.

Sidenote: Arc Rise Fantasia, being something like a Tales game with a different battle system, actually follows this rule, and if you consider that it shares a couple staff members with Symphonia, it makes perfect sense.

I don't even know if this is significant-enough to make a topic about, but it's just something I've always found interesting. I need to stress that I'm not trolling, and I'm not trying to be perverted. It's more like an academic/characterization perspective (though you can post artbook scans with the girls' three sizes if you want; I won't stop you).

I think this is likely to come up any time you have 3+ female characters and don't give them all the same breast size. You could probably find it's more consistently true with, say, height (short, medium, tall) or hair color (light, medium, dark).

And apparently Inomata likes flat-chested gals. Sometimes.
