Acording to Brazilian coverage of the last Tales of Event... yes:

Quote
Producer Bandai Namco presented in Japan new games of the RPG series "Tales of". As they started out the presentation, the company said that their next main project would be on the Wii. So far, Nintendo's console only had recieved a paralel spin-off of "Tales of Symphonia".

Could Namco have developed a thing called intelligence? About time too.

I just hope that they don't go with Abyss-style graphics.

They have to improve graphics, ToS2 was a joke. Wii tales games should look like Vesperia, only in SD, it's not like the game is a polygon pusher, has amazing textures of anything of the sort. Namco was just too lazy.

And, since there's people out here that understand japanese:

Quote
なんと、つぎの『テイルズ オブ』シリーズのマザーシップタイトル(シリーズのメイン作品)をWii向けに展開する予定であることが明らかになった
Fonte: http://www.famitsu.com/game/news/1216409_1124.html

and:

Quote
この次に開発をしているマザーシップタイトルについてはWiiで展開することを発表
Source: http://plusd.itmedia.co.j...cles/0807/07/news109.html

Doubt on some places is whether they've said "next main tales game to be on the Wii" or "next main Tales installments to be on the Wii".

haha haha haha

Vesperia looks leaps and bounds better than Abyss or Symphonia, even at SD resolutions. At best, the Wii will get something that looks marginally better than the last-gen 3D titles, IF you want a decent framerate. ToS KoR already looks better than them and maintains a steady 60FPS.

If there is a Wii game in development, let it be 2D.

Of course it does, hence why ToS2 looks so crappy in SD and should look miles and bounds better, because ToV shows the evolution ToS2 should have had in SD, or at least close. Both ToS and TotA would run easily on PS2 (yes I know ToS was badly ported for PS2, but that's the keyword, "bad"), and with a little of more work (not even that much) ToS2 would as well. And they ought to do so much better than that; like... at least putting the hardware to use; since they seem to be attempting to, elsewhere on a platform that sells less anyway.

And speaking of 60 frames... SMG and MP3 run at 60 frames. It's not like you can't push better graphics while doing 60 frames, or that the Wii is "that" limited. Certainly better than giving up.
If there is a Wii game in development, let it be 2D.
Hope not, nothing against 2D itself, but being left with 2D when they're doing 3D elsewhere with at least, more effort, is like they couldn't be arsed to do so on the Wii. And I dislike that, that's exactly the kind of bad attitude Namco had towards the system that has to change. If they want to do 2D titles, then do both, 2D and 3D and no one will complain.

Metroid Prime 3 used a legacy engine that already managed 60FPS on the GameCube. They were able to push it a little more out of it for slightly better textures and larger areas with the Wii's extra resources. The overall package didn't look a generation ahead of Prime 2 in the slightest.

Mario Galaxy looked and ran so well because they mastered the art of minimalism. Its design of running around on small spherical worlds was a huge part of that.

2D Tales would be a good fit on the Wii, and give it an air of uniqueness. There's a sad lack of it in the series lately anyway. And there's still a sad lack of console 2D games in general.

Personally, I wish the Wii would take a cue from the PS1 era. It had weak 3D capabilities compared to its competitor. To compensate, a lot of games used awesome pre-rendered backgrounds, and I want to at least see a revival of them. I know that I like that the new Wario game is 2D, and might buy it merely on that fact.

Actually... yes and no.

They've said so in interviews, Metroid Prime source code is actually pretty different from MP3, since they have access to the code, they've essentially always improved it until it's not the same engine anymore in a sense, even if it keeps some traits. Same for Nintendo actually, stunningly, Zelda TP uses the same engine as Zelda WW. And to some extent... I bet Namco too, Symphonia, Abyss and ToS2 engine must be pretty much the same... although it must have changed quite a bit, even from Symphonia to Abyss.

But even if they did have some heritage, and knowledge, that they had... it's better later than never, for Namco to do the same. It's not like it's that hard when newcomers are already pushing good stuff.
Mario Galaxy looked and ran so well because they mastered the art of minimalism. Its design of running around on small spherical worlds was a huge part of that.
Actually no, Mario galaxy pushes insane geometry, after all it's harder to, first... do spherical worlds instead of plain terrain, second... keep track of those planets on-screen (if they were not on screen, then yes, they'd be sparing the hardware and wasting all on those... but they aren't)

It's a pretty impressive game from a technical standpoint due to that... it's not pulling many tricks to be "minimalist" quite the contrary, it's using Wii's strenghts for what it is, one of those being, being capable of pretty good polycounts, just like it's predecessor.

I like Team Destiny games, I think it's stupid that their titles don't come out of Japan... This said... For the majority of the public, getting a 2D game instead of a 3D one (who will most likely, if it's not for the Wii, be coming out elsewhere) is getting the short end of the stick, as it is for me.

I don't think the fact that it is on the Wii makes it a reason for them not to try and push it and instead going for such self-contented designs as their main installment for it.

I wish it got a cue of support from PS1 and PS2; but thing with... say... Wario, is that we know the developer won't pull a 3D Wario elsewhere (and even then we know they're going all out, and they have other series who have gone into full 3D making it redundant to do the same with other character).

As for pre-rendered as a standard... it won't ever come back (just like 2D itself), but if you're lucky you might have stand alone titles, like a new Baten Kaitos. And after BK Origins I can't say I wouldn't anticipate the game.

Although I usually like 2D tales games more then the 3D ones I feel Putting 2D games on systems that are capable of much more is a bit... half assed. Maybe I'm just thinking of 2D like the ps1 era. If they were to make a 2D game for today's console I would love it if it was like Odins sphere. Not game play wise but look wise. Even though Odins sphere was 2D it was beautify  rendered and pushed the ps2 to it's limits. So much that  you got slow downs... I hope that wouldn't be the case on the wii though.

2-d games are among my favorite types of games; if they do indeed make a 2d game for the wii, I really hope it makes it over seas.

Yea, I was about to say cuz TODR is beautiful imo! The spells and ougis really were gorgeous. And from what ive seen from TOR, that one is also a very good looking 2-d ps2 game. Id think a well crafted 2-d game for the wii would be a good sell and not at all "half assed"; if done right they could still be as good as any 3-d game imo!  Smiley

All I really want from 2D games on next gen systems are high res sprites at the very least. Wario Ware for wii was all 2d but it was stylized and looked great. All of the 2D in that game was smooth and clear. I the do make a 2d tales game on a next-gen system they better not go the Disgaea 3 route. I didn't care about the simple polygon backgrounds they used because the man focus is always on the sprites. They used low res sprites for the game because the creators wanted to the soul of it or some weird thing like that. The sprite animation is more fluid from the previous games but would it really have been to much to use nice clear high res sprites?

EDIT: I just saw some trailers for wario land: shake it for the wii. Thats close to what I expect next gen 2D to look like on a console. Except for the backgrounds and environment though I kinda get a gba/ds vibe from those. The sprites however are nice, clear, hi-res and fully animated.

I actually started hearing that it's in no relations to Tales of Legendia.

Hm, so they didn't dump the idea? I never did confirm whether it was a rumor or what...could this be the new tales installment for the wii? Undecided
