Tales of Rebirth PSP makes me giddy with excitement.
Nice to see Alpha System take a stab at a real Tales game, I bet Tales studio is busy with that Symphonia spin-off and the ports/director's cut, so let's see the outcome of Innocence.
I dunno, the Tales series moving to the DS is fine by me, I know I don't play these games because of the visuals. Though it'd have been nice to see them try a 2D Tales game for DS.

Gah, I swear... if Tales of Innocence gets localised, that title had better be changed. Also, the little girl with twin-revolvers (the other one is obscured by the box with the pirate mascot) doesn't even look like she can lift the things, let alone shoot with them. :/ On the bright side, I have a DS Lite so if it gets localised I might get it if it's good.
I have to admit that I'm having a hard time being optimistic about the way Tales is going these days. The ToS-spinoff sounds really nice, as does the ToD1 Director's Cut, but I can't help feeling as if the series has both jumped the shark and been eaten by it... Still, I'll hope for the best. Maybe we'll be in for a pleasant surprise in the end, but I'm not counting on it.

It's a shame Rebirth might not get localised because of the 2D visuals.
Still, I dunno, we've not heard real details on anything thus far, I wouldn't start getting worried about anything just yet...

If Radiant Mythology sells well then there might be a chance...but why would it sell well anyway.

Yes, it's supposedly being moved to a handheld platform (despite the fact that this upcoming DS game still isn't being made by Tales Studio). The only difference that makes to me is that it's not playable on the big screen. I don't see how it's the death of the series...
There hasn't been any decent new tales since Abyss. Now that they shift the series to DS and the new main series entry isn't made by Tales Studio, I have a feeling all we'll get from now on are main series entries like Tempest while the good developers make cheap spin offs.
Mabe it's too early to say this, but I really hope they'll stop this and just bring one great main series Tales every two years, made by developers who actually know how to make a tales (team symphonia or destiny)
Of course, it could all turn out well, with ToS:... becoming a great RPG and ToI being a game worthy of the name Tales.
But I have my doubts here, and I have them for good reasons.

Holy cow. Words cannot describe the excitement going through my head right now.
On the subject of ToD: DC, I really hope they put in some more of
Judas' techs, like Senretsu Koukusen
in there. And give him Majinken Zetsuga like they were going to. And I could've sworn I heard a sound clip with Stahn screaming "Blue Earth" in the sound test.
EDIT: Teichan just updated. ToI Promo vid on the 23rd. Apparently Knights of Ratatosk is a tentative title.

... i don't ever recall seeing a gun being used in this series.
Regret/Legretta wasn't
that
long ago, was she? But I'm sure you've already considered her and didn't count her because she wasn't a playable character.
Anyway, Innocence is actually looking okay if it can run the Abyss engine (sans loading, hopefully). Looks like they're going nuts with the Abyss engine (well, it was a pretty good engine) putting it in three games (at the least, maybe I'm forgetting more) other than Abyss.
ToD Director's Cut... good thing I didn't make much progress in ToDr.
ToR-PSP... perhaps it stands a chance to get localized, possibly with ToD2-PSP as well, if Radiant Mythology sells even decently. Well, Bamco doesn't seem to mind bad sales when considering releasing the next game anymore after Legendia's bomb.

I am rather dismayed at the series being criticized for two new games when there is a cheap port and a director's cut ripe for lambasting!

Is ToI by AS? (I don't see it on the scan or AS website, but maybe I'm blind.) If so, we can probably trust it to be good. But I wouldn't be too concerned to find out it was by DIMPS; ToT need a little... okay, a lot... more work and was short on content, but it had some things I really liked. I'd definitely like to see something like ToT but better. ^o^
The battle screen looks multi-line, but I want ToT's skill system again. That was awesome.

I have a hunch it'll sell as well as they're expecting, e.g. we'll all lament the low numbers, but they're willing to release another game anyway. But whether they're willing to release ToR is another matter. I get the feeling someone at Namco US just plain hates 2D or something....

Sucks for you guys who hate spin-offs for no reason! ^___^ Perfectly fine for the rest of us.
As for the main series on DS, that's not new. As for the main series not being by TS, that's even less new!

Many people can't take handhelds seriously, just because. Like spin-offs.

Character designer is obviously not Fujishima or any other artist that's done the main series. Maybe it's Daigo? I think I like the first couple designs shown more than the ones in ToS
I like them too.
I was thinking the designs themselves (ignoring the artwork) look like Inomata. From the neck down, the guy kind of looks like a cross between Kyle and Veigue, doesn't he? The color style did strike me as Okumura. (I think some of ToA's character art was drawn by Fujishima, colored by Okumura, and the recolored later. So maybe the art is Okumura+Inomata like that?)
Shiina Yuu (
Tales of Commons and Wahrheit
) also came to mind.

beat me to the punch D:
also, as long as alfa pulls an ND2 instead of an ND3, it should be fine.
they really need to cut back on the numbers though... if they're expecting higher sales, shouldn't they put out LESS games and just have each one be quality?
maybe the slow NA tales releases is a blessing in disguise; they might want to artificially slow down the series. the ToS sequel and maybe destiny director's cut look like they'd be picked up, though.

Hopefully the Destiny Director's Cut and the Rebirth port make it over shores....
As for the ToS sequel on the Wii, sounds great but it says the Symphonia cast will return? Does that mean Zelos lives or something? >_>;

Wait, is there a problem with that? It's supposedly only two years after.
isn't the canon path the Zelos path and not the Kratos path (though Kratos leaves either way)?

Various sequels of ToS, crossovers including ToS, linear adaptations of ToS, and ToS's own opening movie have been based on an ending in which Zelos lived (Colette ending when specified), so I don't know why so many people keep expecting the next one to be based on the Kratos ending. ^_^;
I would like one based off the Presea ending though... :3

Do ports really impact sales of other games in the series much? If you have enough time and money and series love that you don't mind rebuying a game you already have, surely you have enough to buy the new games in addition to the ones you already have.
I don't think the games' quality has been affected by the number of games either. The only recent Tales that seem rushed are ToA (which was trying to get fast so its release date could be exactly 10 years after ToP's, not so they could get a head start on the next game) and I guess ToT (which was made by a team which apparently isn't making any more Tales anyway). I see ToL accused of being rushed (in which case, see ToT), but I don't think it was. More time doesn't necessarily make something better.
And you know what Tales
still
holds the record for being released the soonest after the previous game? It was only the fourth game in the series excluding remakes.

Am I missing something? Destiny 2 came out two years after Eternia.
Unless you're counting ND1->Eternia, but I don't consider ND1 as part of the main series...

I think ToI has good potential, as long as enough of a budget is put into it.
There's quite a lot of hate on ToS 2's graphics.

For me,
the NeoGAF thread
. The info was pouring out of a Tales press conference and credible users were reporting what was going on. Aokage is Nick Rox, a famous GameFan editor.
Anyway. Apparently Innocence's battle system is to be a kind of fusion between Abyss and Destiny R. On paper, this sounds absolutely amazing. Hopefully Alfa System can pull it off.

Eeww. After browsing through that NeoGAF thread I see that they've implemented a point/click world map. *begins seething* If this is Tales Studio making this then there's no excuse for that.
And check out this pic:
Reading the kana, I can make out "drama", "animation", "character voice", "sound", and "visual". And that big arrow pointing to the DS.
Okay, I'm confused now. Most of those words above could better be applied to next-gen systems, rather than the DS, which, as AFAIK.
