I'm a little bored so I'm the the mood for speculating about the names. In some Tales games, names are changed (i.e Klarth to Claus). I'm wondering, if Rebirth came out in NA, here's my opinions on the names. Note: I suck at naming.

Veigue Lungberg ---> Vayne Lombard
Tytree Crowe      ---> Tytree Crowlin
Hilda Rhambling  ---> Hilda (I can't think of a good last name)
Mao                    --->  Mao
Eugene Gallardo ----> Eugene Garraldo
Annie Barrs

Tales of Hearts

Shing Meteoryte ---> Chase Meteoryte(he looks like a Chase to me)
Kohak ---> Amber
For Hisui, I know that throughim413 would call him Jadeite, I'd call him Jaden.
All the other characters would be left alone.

What about you? What do you think the names would be?

I'd doubt any of Rebirth's names would be changed. There's not a Stan/Lion-type thing. The only reason it might be changed slightly is if you have a Cless/Cress where there is an obvious pun in English (w/ Mint).

For Hearts, Shing might be changed (someone over at TOSF was theorizing that there was another name that had more significance in English). Same w/ Kohaku, which is Japanese for Amber, I think.

EDIT: Gah, I forgot the u.

"Kohak" isn't Japanese for anything, it's just a bizarre romanization that fails to capture even the Japanese meaning of the name. Kohaku is Japanese for Amber though.

i've been promoting Xing (星) as the likely reference. of course, that isn't terribly familiar with western audiences either, especially the X = "sh" pronunciation. (not counting the sizable chinese-american population...) i guess the voice acting clears that up, though.

also, yeah, "Kohak" just looks weird to me. she's named "Kohaku" in my save Tongue

Xing sounds kinda of good to me. Better than what I can come up with. Hopefully, this Tales of Hearts to US rumor is true. I just hope Namco-Bandai doesn't pull a Sailor Moon and change Kunzite to Malachite!

P.S: What is it that makes PSP games hard to translate? I know it's something about compression codes? How did ppl break the PS1's code?

I think it was just that the compression algorithm hadn't been cracked yet.

There's a pun with Cress/Mint? I don't get it.

not really a pun, but a word association. (water)cress and mint are both edible plants.
