As I once mentioned, I am in the process of translating the Strategy Guide for Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut.   I am very, very proud to announce that I have completed the first 100 pages!!     This might not mean much to anybody, but I had to tell someone!  That's 100 out of 338 pages of japanese text containing basic game info, a town guide, and the entire walkthrough for Leon's Side.  I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with this after I'm done.  I'll most likely keep it for myself on a CD, but there's a chance I'll decide to put it out there in an Adobe file and let others download it to their hearts content. 


I'm so happy right now, I think I'm gonna go outside and do cartwheels

Cool! Which strategy guide are you translating, if you don't mind my asking? I'm just curious because I think I saw at least 5 different ToDr guides in varying degrees of completion while I was in Japan. Based on your description, it sounds similar to the Perfect Guide for Leon's Side that Famitsu put out. Great little resource if that is indeed the one you're working on.

Not as hard as you think.  The only pain in the arse is whenever the text overlaps any type of graphics on the page.  That takes alot of precision to work on.

Thank you!  The only doubts I'm having about releasing it is the legality issues, i.e. 'Can it be tracked back to me?' and 'Will it make me famous enough to get an acquittal?' But if enough of you want it, I'll suck it up


I am gonna have to go back a little later and try to figure out some of the Kana (Monster names, weird-sounding items) and then when I'm all done, I'll read through it to see if it all sounds alright.

Well, I found a few Kana names I'm not quite sure about.  Mostly Monster and Item names.  And as I've never played Tales of Destiny in any form, I can only guess at some of these.  Now, most of them I can solve as I've seen them in other Tales games, but some, like the monsters "コカドリーユ" and "シルルス" confound me.  Other than that, the translation is going well, got up to page 130   I just leave the Kana's I don't know blank till I'm able to dedicate more time in solving them.


P.S.  As soon as I figure out how, I'll put up pics of my work so far.

I've scanned the entire guide onto my computer.  Translation of the walkthrough is about 65% done. 
I'm actually working on the Item and Monster lists right now as a sort of vacation break.  It's a much easier section to work with.  However, I'm wondering if any of you could help me with the names of the items/monsters?  Most are easy as I've heard of them before in other Tales of... games, but there are a few which I can't seem to translate.  And there really aren't any sites I can look on for the answer, either, and yes I already tried the TOD wiki. 
So basically if your familiar with the game, or if your good with Katakana, may I ask you send me a note letting me know?  Or even better, provide me with a decent and complete list of the translated names?  It would help me get this thing out there alot faster

That's an impressive feat for translating it to such an extent. I can't do much in the way of help with the names of things, I know close to nothing about japanese.

You could always try going to a language translation site, have you tried that? I wouldn't expect accurate results though, I tried on a few things and it didn't give me a definitive result.
