I just picked the game up.  Not bad so far.  Luke's voice is painful when he's whining, which has been frequent so far.  Oh yeah, and Namco decided to cut out the opening again... kind of...  Technically, the song is still there, but it's the karaoke version, in other words, no vocals.  Not a huge loss, and it's a step up from what we've seen in the past.  Anyway, I'm going back to playing.

Oh, kewl. Yeah. that's wonderful. If we couldn't have the vocals, having the karaoke version is the next best thing. Now the other versions of karma that play in other parts of the game will most likely still be there. This is most excellent.

Could be worse. At least it isn't like Symphonia PS2.

I wonder if there's any hope that US version of Abyss magically works with HDLoader.

An S-Flag and a Pac-Man belt buckle.

Maybe I can find something to enjoy from this after all.

OK, so I played about three hours.. but I'm getting a bit of a cold/flu and really need to get extra sleep tonight so I had to quit. For the first hour or so I was pretty sure that lack of excitement had been just.. but I warmed up to it a bit.

Load Times = Lose
No Cel-Shading = Lose
Luke kicking the Pokémon = WIN

Wait till you enter Namcot Island. There's so many Namco cameos I only know a few there.

Heh, it's Nam Cobanda Isle now; guess they wanted to update the reference a bit...

I hope not. Do they even have any original properties?

Well I just got the game today and this is my first time playing it.  I must say that the free run is broken, but I still love this game.  *Wonders how many Namco references I'll get on Nam Cobanda Isle*

Well, I wasn't really that excited about Tales of the Abyss and was also trying to keep the hype down.  Now I have started on it late at night after getting it in the mail yesterday (Well, this post was made on Friday the 13th, so I have to get very technical here).  I want to reserve judgement before I go proclaiming it's the greatest Tales ever (though somewhere along the line, I'm probably going to end up hating myself for not seeing why it's the greatest Tales).

Well, I guess this might be the, "Talk about Abyss" topic so whatever.

I still haven't formed a solid opinion yet. The load times are murder though (only on the world map, elsewhere they're *mostly* manageable) and I have the same complaint about this as I did with Symphonia though in that I wish you could skip by the chat dialogues with a button. I don't mind that they're silent but I don't like waiting through them as I'm a fast reader.

I am GREATLY surprised in one aspect though, at least so far.. the characters don't seem like the horrifyingly generic anime stereo-types that usually pollute the Tales series.

I don't mind the load times or silent chats, though I wish monsters would show up more frequently on the world map.  Maybe it's just where I am, and if they let you skip parts in chats like word bubbles, that'd be more work, and we all know they want to avoid that.

I like all the characters I've met so far, but I wish Ion was a girl.

I'm an average-speed reader and at some points I had trouble keeping up with Symphonia's skits o_O

More monsters on the world map? You like the post-battle load times? The balance of monsters is good enough already, I say.

I was hoping they would somewhat increase the load times for the US version like they did with Samurai Champloo (and boy howdy was it a big improvement, yet it didn't disguise the fact that it was a pretty bad game)...

Oh wells, it looks like they did good with this localization, despite the voiceless skits, everything else got voice acting, plus they kept at least a vocal-less Karma and its variations as well as Tear's tone songs. I also hear the voice acting wasn't too horrible and was decent enough for you not to rip off your ears. Now for me to actually go get it some time...
