That they will include the ability to save Leon (Lion) Magnus? And possibly allow Lilith to join the party? I'm sure people have done this for remakes in the past regardless of plothole threats. Looks like they took their time on this one, why waste an awesome character when they are not going to be used in the later half of the game?  I mean look at Tales of Phantasia's Suzu...

Lyris/Lilith, yes; Lion, no.

Having Lion recruitable again after that one point in the game would be like bringing Aerith back from the dead. His departure from the party was an important plot point, especially for the ending.

Changing that part of the story woulld really undercut a lot of Leon's signifigance.

Yeah thats what I had thought orignally, but Leon's death was a bit vague as I can remeber, and also wasn't planned to be "forced".  I don't know, FF7 didn't really have "unique" characters to begin with, where as this game does.  Maybe we can get Caltier back though...  I'm not suggesting that they don't kill him all togther but have the OPTION to save him, kind of like Zelos.

Aerith was unique enough for the world she lived in to make her death important. It was a very powerful thing for many gamers for that time, alot of the newer generations (people who missed out/got jaded or spoiled before they even played the game) just don't appreciate that. Anyway, I'm not here to argue FF7, I was just making an example.

But you're also forgetting something else important about Lion's death, or perhaps you didn't know. Changing the fact would completely throw at least two certain characters' parts in Tales of Destiny 2 (the real sequel, not ToE) out of whack. It would ruin a good deal of important story.

I get the feeling that, if they'd had the chance to do everything they wanted nine years ago, ToD would have a branch in plotline there. But now that they've made a sequel that depends on the path they've chosen, I'd guess they're going to stick with the one plot path they've got.

I wouldn't be too surprised if they do make a branch though.

Cyllya predicts:
--Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World will reveal that Ratatosk was involved in ToS's last required scene in Heimdall.
--Tales of Vesperia's plot will involve space aliens in some way

I kind of got that feeling too when I played it. Now that you mention it, I'd welcome a branch if ToD1-PS2 introduces one.

As long as they don't mess up TOD2's canon in the original branch, I'll be happy; And I do have to admit, Lion does look cooler in the remake.

Thats what I mean, I know the Judas/Lion thing (I was playing the game today ^_^), but it would not hurt at all to make a branch to appease the fans, or make for a new scenario. They know that Leon is the most popular Tales Character, it would make for a nice surprise. They did it for Tales of Symphonia, if people wanted Kratos back they could get him back, and that did make some plot holes, but I doubt people cared.  Heck in the ToD2 Judas flashback scene, Leon showed a little regret for betrying Stahn right after the battle when he didn't originally.

I'm not meaning to debate or anything, I'm not mad if they wouldn't do it, I just don't see any really good reason for them not to (in their situation), if you're gonna remake the game, do some things you didn't get to do with the orignial, despite whether a sequal was made.  Now that you can play as Leon instead of Stahn, why not?  Especially if all the characters get new moves and stuff.

Sorry to double post but, the ToD2 plot did have a major plot hole, when Kyle went to Chaotic Dycroft to beat Barbatos, that would have saved Stah right there because you killed Barabotos, before he killed Stahn in the present (18 years latter).  Yet when you go back to the present Stahn is still dead...0_o???  I'm sure a branch wouldn't matter then...

Well, if anything  then I'd like him to come back for a bit longer, but still end up dieing somehow in the end. I just don't want him to live.

Now I'm almost certain that they will add that feature, If I remember correctly there was already a branch to begin with, remember how you could beat Lion the first time you met him and end the game?  It didn't effect the sequal (which it could have) and it was difficult to pull off.  Come on Namco, do it for all those Lion fans!

I say they do this, when Miktran/Kronos fights you, and Lion is with the group (you chose to save him at the branch), he just summons an above average monster or Dark Hugo...

Although that was an ending.
It really was just a spoof and was prolly not intended in the first place :p

The game was made as it was and lion was intended to be killed eventually.

I don't see why he should live on? it would ruin the plot completly.

How's this sound: he's playable as like, a Grade Shop bonus or as a reward from a secret dungeon and has NO impact on the actual game other then gameplay?

That sound good?

I definately go for the "Leon in party" as a grade shop bonus.  Well, Tales of Rebirth did have a grade shop bonus where you can start off with the entire party.  If that was the case, why not?  Not only that, we have to give those Leon fanboys/fangirl a reason to play the game again.  *evil grin*

Oh yeah, and I'm all for Lilith being legitimately playable.

i have a great idea. they should make the branch only available in the second playthrough.

AFTER READING NEW POSTS: i guess the controlling factor for the branch could be the grade shop, as you guys said. make an option called "Alternate Story" or something like that. or if that's too much work, just have it be that you get him back for battle only, with no effect on the plot. (maybe it's a clone, or a robot, or a doppleganger, or something.)

I got a better idea. Make that Alternate Story have Kyle and Co. appear in the last dungeon. If they put that, we get to fight Barbatos as an extra boss.
