I like Rebirth, but it's fallen to the wayside so hard because of all the other crap I've been playing in the past couple years. Really, the last time I remember playing it was back in May of '09 when I was on a prescription that would pretty much get me high on the second daily dose of three. By the third one, I was damn-near speaking in tongues. At least I slept like a rock.

Right, well. Enough of my fantastically-boring medical stories. The thing about Rebirth, for me, that is, was that the random encounter difficulty was on both extremes and everything in-between. I'd have really easy fights, and then I'd get into a battle where I'd be inescapably-sandwiched between two enemies and beaten senseless. Sometimes, this would happen in two consecutive battles with the same enemies. Still, I found it to be quite enjoyable.

The lack of healing magic is something you eventually get used to, but healing items are expensive as hell. They really, really want you to use the in-game system instead of resorting to items, I guess. I could never get it to work right, even though I knew what I was doing. Maybe there's something later in the game that makes your HP regen faster or in larger increments. I only got to slightly-before the end of the first act.

It's a great game, and its lack of a domestic release is a damn shame.

Don't quote the whole post above you, least of all if your reply is going to be a single word or sentence. That's not cool, man. And why did you make a separate topic about Rebirth's battle system? Couldn't you have just asked about it in THIS thread?

It's not really free-movement. It's kind of between the linear and free-motion battle system. There're three lines that you move on, sometimes there's some environmental effects (I've had water puddles slowing me down), and you just move across the lines and up and down freely. As for the lack of TP, yeah. You, um...you put your artes on your force cube and they're mapped to a direction (afaik the AI allies can only use the four they have equipped, too), and however much meter you have left in the four directions is how powerful the arte's going to be. Or something like that. So you can't keep spamming the same one over and and over. And you hold the block button and press up or down to go into heat or cool mode, respectively (I think; speaking from memory here).

There's more info on gamefaqs, I think. Easiest to learn by doing, anyway.
