I'd say rubbing off a little bit of Germanic/Norse influence on the term would probably be a good approach.

Agreed, the pseudo-Norse thing is Aselia tradition.

Well, assuming anyone likes the work I did on the script for ToP PSX once it's released, I'd be interested in doing the same with NDX.

Well, it's of personal importance to me to understand every excruciating plot detail of NDX as well as any changed/new parts of ToPX, so I'm translating the script one way or another. Smiley (Even if Namco surprises us with an official translation.) I'm definitely willing to contribute the results of that labor to any translation patch, as well as the skits, villagers, and environment text if I get script dump. However, my motivation might wane when it comes to menus, tutorials, and minigames. Tongue

I'm getting the impression that multiple different parties are interested in translated NDX though none have green-lit a full project. Well, I'll share the translation with anyone who wants it as long as they don't mind me sharing with everyone else. I'd also like to put a script in both languages on my website like I did with TOP.

As for the ToP portion of the game, I've already done a first-draft translation of anything that was in the PS1 version (well, only a portion of the skits) and would be willing to comb the script for changes and translate anything new. (Though if Cless isn't planning an NDX project, perhaps he'd be willing to share PP's ToP script, since he and other PP members have put huuuge amounts effort into editing it into absolutely perfection.)
Yup.

Regarding ToPX: The way things currently are, I'd say that entire portion of the dual package should be axed (temporarily), until someone's able to bring over all the extensive ASM hacks from ToP PS1 to it... Which I honestly have no clue whether would be an easy or hard task to accomplish... It's probably an "either or" case of it being a complete nightmare or a total cakewalk.

Also, "new/flashy" games always attract lots of people. Just too bad that the majority rarely actually care about quality, accuracy, technicalities, etc.. It pains me to see how much attention and praise certain 0-day, babelfish translations of certain games get... the fact that so many people would settle for something like that is just tragic. (And the general mentality and train of thought displayed in certain corners of userbase is just really tragic). They quite literally get nothing out of the translated dialog, as the translated assets aren't actually translated... at all.

What's also a bit sad is that a lot of people seem to want to entirely run their own show, rather than actually trying to get to reach out to one another and kinda buddy up a little.

Anyway, if you're producing a straight up and usable translation, and ZeForte actually finishes those tools (evt. with the tweaks I suggested), and with other ToP "veterans" offering to jump in too... I'd love to dive in too, to help make sure that NDX both feels like a retail product and maintains consistency with PP's ToP (and any other currently active/recent Tales project(s) that it may have elements in common with.)

Don't worry about frontend content if you don't want to translate walls upon walls of it. With a proper script dump, assuming it's not all completely rewritten, it might be possible to get it all done via translation memory software solutions (to be honest, even if the descriptions aren't EXACTLY the same, any items with shared names/functionality could evt. use legacy translations... unless someone feels an necessary urge to have literal and direct translations for stuff that most likely wont really need it.... unless there are items tied to plot and/or everything's written in a specific style that would be nice to replicate in English.)

Anyway, I might pass around a few PMs later if people can confirm their genuine interest haha

Well, assuming anyone likes the work I did on the script for ToP PSX once it's released, I'd be interested in doing the same with NDX.

I generally like the idea of continuity in style between closely related projects. Hence why I'm really trying to self-nominate myself as the Project Destiny Nazi or something at times, but I know that Cless has expressed interest in possibly also dragging in some extra external force for it too (could be interesting). Anyway, I'd say that anyone who's been involved with ToP should totally get in on NDX (and evt. ToPX too - if it ever feasible - though, it's totally not my idea of an exciting project...)

As for Narikiri alternatives and borrowing pseudo-Norse stuff, the big main issue is of course pronunciation... Would you stay close to the original source word in terms of spelling or would you "localize" it in an attempt to preserve the pronunciation? (I really sometimes wish for my ears to just wrap up and fall off when I sometimes get to hear "foreigners" talk about certain things haha)

Whew, I stopped playing NDX for a while because I wasn't up to the hard work of writing the script down. But I finally decided I'd make an extra save so I could just enjoy playing it now and go back to copying the script later. So I just beat it! Definitely an awesome game. I had some story-related misgivings at first.... They completely scrapped and redid most of the plot, and it was kind of hard to feel like the writers were taking the story seriously when one of the major characters is gynecomaniacal possibly pedophilic talking wardrobe from space.... But it turned out pretty good!

I definitely got the feeling they were trying to make the game match up better with ToS/DotNW. A few DK-related facts that originated in ToS came up a few times....

So... did anyone ever make a script dump...?

I guess Kevassa could do a script dump. He's incidentally looking for a translator atm.
