No, don't worry! You're not expected to care about this one. Smiley

This article on Famitsu.com describes what is supposedly a new Tales of Mobile game, but they don't give the name. I thought I'd mention it since it could possibly what's getting one of those new trademarks. Probably not though. I don't remember people talking about Tales of Tactics/Breaker/Commons/Wahrheit getting trademarked. Furthermore, since the gameplay looks very un-Tales-like in those two screenshots, I figure this is likely to be a crossover or sequel or something. Maybe not though.

Also, I love the main character's design. Heroine's nice too, despite being orange. Character designer must be Shiina Yuu again?

Man, another superior main chara design going to a Tales that won't do it justice.
The heroine doesn't quite complement the main though, despite the sun/moon-star connection.

don't worry, the next main Tales after Vesperia will have the Vaan/Luke/Tidus look everyone loves. they'll probably throw in Kuja for good measure.

i'm guessing he'll have a mini jacket (think trunks) and a speedo, then heavy arm and shin armor. he'll probably also have a fighting style similar to the Vesperia main's, but he'll triple wield.

That, is not a Tales game in any sense whatsoever. Looks just like the Torneko no Daibouken ones(minus the on screen map). Makes me wanna hurl in my helmet.

I LOVE rogue-likes.. but to me, a Tales game lives and dies on its unique battle system.

...tales of strife or valoria?

wasn't something like that coming out as well? Or am I just messing everything up?   Huh

those two charas could be brother and sister. I would bet on it.

They were trademarked as possibilities, but not promises for new Tales tiles.

Famitsu.com[/url] describes what is supposedly a new Tales of Mobile game, but they don't give the name.
Perhaps these are the possible names then:

Quote
Tales of the Genesis (Video Game, Toy, Streaming Content)
Tales of the Nexus (Video Game, Toy, Streaming Content)
Tales of Hearts (Video Game, Toy, Streaming Content)
Source: http://www.cubed3.com/new...ai_Namco,_Sega_&_More

Yes, I'm aware they were already posted elsewhere... but supposedly they were just trademarked and Tales usually go this path so... who knows.

This is kinda old news, but Shiina Yuu's site says this game is called Tales of the World: Material Dungeon. None of the wikis (eng/ja) have it yet (shiina yuu's lists it at least) so I guess it's still newish / no one cares as usual.

Huh, I didn't notice on MP this time. *checks again* Oh, here it is, back in January. Infos!

o_O It says it's an original RPG? (e.g. not a crossover/sequel/prequel/etc?) The characters are twins, Renée (er, Raine? XD) and Leo. It has a narikiri system like the ND games, even though it's not called ND. You can freely switch between Renée and Leo in dungeons, which is required for dungeon/quest strategies. There will be Tales series guest characters. (Just cameos or it is a crossover after all?) Renée and Leo are adventuring to use and seal "roots" (y halo thar ND2) of four elements that are released from a pendent. Or something.

Hmm. So... like... It's a spin-off of spin-offs. Spin-off^2.... Cool. I'd probably play it if I could.

*has to go back and erase the n off of half the times she tried to type Leo's name*

i *think* "dungeon" is semi-synonymous with narikiri system now. Tales of the World denotes gaiden/spinoff/crossover, and it wasn't narikiri enough (no LMBS, not fanservicey/fandom enough) to be called ND4 (which I'd agree). They'd never commit the ND moniker for a mobile anyway, I guess.

haha, Leon. I'm guessing they'd use Lenee or something for the twin double L.
....namco mobile still has wahrheit stuff so I guess they really don't care :p

it's sort of sad, because it's like you're not EXPECTED to care about half the Tales titles coming out anymore. i mean, seriously? does anyone really play games on their cellphones? why not just go home and play a console, or whip out a DS?

maybe the cell phone market in japan is way different?

Oh, it is from what I hear... The mobile gaming market is really the way to make big money over there, including cell phone games. Any other country, cell phone games are bleh... I hazard a guess that it has a bit to do with the stereotypical Japanese salary man not having enough time to play at home or pull out a handheld gaming console to play a full length handheld game.

Anymore? I'm not sure you were ever expected to care about half the Tales titles coming out. ND1? ToF1? ND2? If you were expected to care, I'm sure it's only because they didn't know better yet. Well, the fact that they keep making these means enough people care for them to make money.

i mean, seriously? does anyone really play games on their cellphones? why not just go home and play a console, or whip out a DS?

I play games on my pitiful American cell phone (which is a few years old anyway, and has a delay between you pushing a button and the result showing up on screen) largely because they're almost always less than $10. That's the permanent price; if you just want them for a month, it's usually less than $5. I have seven DS games, one of which I didn't like from the start, and I can't afford any new ones. If I could afford them, I still can't make a game store appear out of nowhere next to the bus stop where I'm waiting, like I can with the cell phone game download service. :p (A console has these disadvantages and more.)

Cell phone games are also popular with people who are more casual gamers who don't want to shell out the money for a game system when they already have a little electronic device on them that they use to listen to music, watch TV, take 5 megapixel photographs, browse the internet, and even make phone calls. Also, people who just don't want to carry around yet another electronic entertainment device even if they own one.

I eagerly await the day cell phone games stop sucking, and from what I hear, that day has indeed already come in Japan. IMO, it stands to reason if you can watch TV on it (you can on my mom's phone, which I think is high-end of what's currently available in the US), the only thing stopping you from playing a great game on it is that no one's made a great game for it yet. And even if you've got a DS with you, you're probably still carrying your phone around because your DS can't make phone calls or whatever, so if the games on both are good, you might as well use both for games sometimes. (Especially when you forgot to charge the batteries on one of them... >_>)

I think to be comfortable for games, phones need bigger buttons than what I've seen on them so far...

From my understanding, you pay 529 yen a month to get access to the entirety of Tales of Mobile. If that's correct... that is a good deal. Even if you don't like ToM's plethora of Tales-related ringtones and stupid minigames, that's like four full (if small) RPGs even before ToW:MD.

The average Japanese isn't expected to know of Tales period :p

Yeah, it's not just about money and time, a big factor is integration. It's the same reason some people rather put songs on their cell than "lug" around an ipod. Too many gadgets for too many things. Everything else is arguably superfluous, the cellphone is not, because itself is an integration of communication and storage apps.

The day cellphones stop sucking here is not so much related to gaming, but when you can pay for anything with it and use it as a pass for everything (to get your car out of a fully automated vending machine type parking garage). We just started testing cellphones as ticket passes in the metro train system here where I am, and not your own cellphone but a standard one they sell because cross-platform is too hard for now. We're still using paper tickets with magnetic strips (not even electronic passes, which the bridge toll system uses) and electronic passes have been the norm in Asian countries for years, if not at least a decade.
