Lack of motivation

Low morale

Large amounts of Procrastination

Several others... just give it some time. I think ToD2 is their highest priority though since it'll take less time to finish.

Really WERE awesome, you mean. I was excited when I had heard that former members of Compile formed Milestone.. but their first two games, Chaod Field and Radirgy Precious, were just not good. Oh well.

I had a question about the translation effort.  The last ToP update seemed to indicate that Xero was MIA, is that still the case or has there been any word from him since the last news post for ToP?

If there has the staff would've told us about it. So I guess the translation spot is open. However Cless wants to have the script as accurate as possible and wants someone who knows both English and Japanese at the back of their hand.

That's a rather tall order to fill.  I was just curious about it in general.  I've been working on my own translation of the script is why I was asking.  I'd say it's probably only at about 20-25% right now, but it's coming along slowly.  I just remembered seeing this posted on 10/15/2005:

'All we need are these to get hacked, Klarth's scipt tools to be finished, and some translated text, and we could start inserting story dialogue... '

And I wasn't sure if any progress had been made.  If you do want to test some script insertions, while I'm sure you have plenty of able people around here willing to help, I would be willing to offer what I have until you can find a full time translator.  Just thought I'd offer, though I realize that you probably don't want help from just anyone.

I heard he did get someone to work on it, but I dunno. If he has, it shouldn't take much longer. When I tried translating it, it went by pretty fast, despite me having to look just about everything up. Someone who's fluent in Japanese should be able to blow through it in no time.

Haha, you too?! XD

Cless, you'd better hurry up, or you'll be the only person who doesn't have it translated.... :P

Never underestimate desperate fans I guess Cheesy

I'm much the same, I have to look up a good number of things, I've only got about a year/year and a half of Japanese courses in college under my belt.  In any case, it's good to hear that there's still something going on with it.  I suppose most of the attention right now is going towards ToD2, which makes sense since it seems to be a much quicker project.  Always easier to work with an end in sight.

has anyone looked at the translation guide FAQs on GameFaqs? maybe you could get in contact with one of them, as their knowledge of Japanese seems pretty good and they're already interested in ToP... who knows, just a suggestion. ^_^;

I assume you're talking about this

That guide on GameFAQs hasn't been updated since 2000.  On top of that, having translated some of it myself, I have to say that parts of his translation are really patchy.  Plus he only translated the main script dialogue (not the town NPCs).  So I'd say that chances are slim to none that he would fit the bill on this project.

I woder if the translation could be applied to the PSP port, since its being emulated I think. I don't know, its too early. We'll have to wait and see.

I was curious about that too.  It really depends on how similar the game code is for the PSP version.  I think there are going to be changes, so I'd think that it wouldn't work, but who knows.

Well, as you can see above, Cyllya had a translation she did and I'm working on translating as well.  Though mine isn't complete yet.  In any case, Cless wasn't really interested in either of them (mine was never even acknowledged Wink) because he's looking for someone who is fluent in both Japanese AND English.  So for now, everyone'll just have to be patient.

I assume you're talking about this

That guide on GameFAQs hasn't been updated since 2000.

i was referring to both that one and the other one there by KusanagiLord02--he didn't translate the dialogue itself, but he did translate names, skills, and other things (looks like he got a lot of help).

then there's the only PSX walkthrough i've been able to find, which is also on GameFaqs, by MGregerson/ALazara, and he translated dialogue for some entire scenes in the game. ..the walkthrough is patchy (sometimes he screws up left and right  Undecided) but the translations seemed pretty solid. ...i think the other thing here is that it seems unrealistic to me to find one sole person to do the translation, unless i'm misunderstanding things (i probably am). it might be better to get a few people together to translate and compare, etc... otherwise you get things like "Morlia" --that one always frustrated me.  Cheesy
