That sounds wonderful to me. ^_^ can't get any better than all that!

And "Trinicus" actually makes a lot more sense than "Tornix" ...if anyone can confirm that "Tornix" was the name that Namco had in mind, it'd be nice to know. Because the Japanese is "トリニクス," which (for those that can't read it) is "To-Ri-Ni-Ku-Su" ...Tornix just doesn't make sense. If it was "Tornix" wouldn't it be "トルニクス" "To-Ru-Ni-Ku-Su"? ... My knowledge of Japanese isn't very expansive, but I know it well enough to know how names work in Katakana...  Undecided

The Japanese strategy guide calls him "Torinics" but I don't really like that. Before the GBA version came here out I was gonna go with "Torinix" but the GBA name sorta sunk in... or something. I hate and loathe "Tornix." Always have, always will.

Also, I forgot. I'm using Moria Mine for what was called the Morlia Gallery/Mineshaft. There was one skit in the entirety of ToS that mentioned Moria being near the Toize Valley Mine, and they are in the same general location on the maps...

Err...yes...I got it from the beginning...didn't you catch that? A little slow? That's one of the problems with forums, I guess. You can't use sarcasm.

I can understand how it could have been mistranslated. What I meant was that I can't understand how the translators could have been so stupid as to leave the name a Milard, a man's name, in the GBA localization when the character they were giving it to was so obviously a woman...something they explained in the very same translation. It's just stupid.

I don't think I've ever seen トりニクスromanized in a way that I felt was effective.  Like Cless said, I've hated 'Tornix' since I first saw it.  And Trinicus in the GBA version didn't really please me either.  I've been translating the script in my free time, and I still haven't decided what to do with his name.  It's one of those names that's simple to say, but is rather difficult to capture in a romanized spelling.

Cless, I have to say, when I was first reading your post in this thread, I wasn't a big fan of some of the ideas.  But looking at it further, I now disagree with myself.  I'm glad you're using Midgard, and I've actually grown rather fond of the name Early.  I had a question though.

Techs/spells: I've imported the entire list from ToP GBA. Tech names will be the same, except Satsugekibukouken (which isn't in the GBA version). It'll be named after Stahn's move in ToD US, Assassin.
First, I was wondering about this.  Particularly in terms of Arche's spells.  It's been awhile since I've played Symphonia and I can't remember how the English GBA looked either.  Do the localizations of all the names match up with the Japanese?  I ask, because, for example, I don't recall there being a 'Rock Mountain' in the localized games.  If the name was different in English, would you use whatever the localized name was even though you can hear her shouting Rock Mountain?  Like I said, I don't remember exactly, so maybe my question isn't even meaningful.

Are you serious? It's hard enough to keep all the different -jutsu seperate plotwise without mixing them up between games.

Well that's one I'm really kinda iffy on. But "God's Breath" is a little weird anyway, IMO. I don't have any brilliant ideas for an alternative. "Divine Wind" also sounds a little hokey to me...

It seems like it would be a little strange to have it reading Judgement when you can hear her saying God Breath.  I kind of think the same thing about Rock Mountain/Debris Fall.  With some of them (Explode/Explosion) it doesn't matter as much because they're so similar.  I do understand the motivation for using the localized names, but it seems like you might be better off sticking to what the player will actually hear when you've got all katakana words.  But this, of course, is just an opinion.  And in the end, it won't effect the overall game at all, it's just a matter of preference.

Matching names with with the VA really isn't a priority for me. It's already been completely destroyed by all the tech name translations, anyway.

Although I've been doing this to a slightly greater extent with Destiny 2 because that game has a lot of ridiculous sounding spell names...

If you don't mind "Debris Fall," how bad is God('s) Breath or Divine Wind? Heck, you could use God('s) Brace or God Bless without even deviating from the kana... but that second sounds like a healing spell, so don't use it. >_>

And... Doesn't ToP-GBA use Glaive for that spell?

Mmm. The Judgment thing already does effect the overall game, due to plot confusion. *lost count of how many "Judgment changed from tenshijutsu to majutsu over the years because the translators are dumb" explainations given so far in plot discussions*

Ah... Well, I can't say I've ever been involved in one of those debates...  I don't really know the details of such arguments, so I suppose it would have been better to say that it doesn't change MY ability to enjoy the game.

Sorry, I'm a bit confused, are you saying that you're not worried about matching because of the other techniques (like Majinken) being renamed?  I do agree with you there, but for the standard player, when they hear Majinken, they wouldn't think twice about seeing Demon Fang because they don't know Japanese.  This was how it was done in Tales of Destiny's US release afterall.  So I do understand the argument, which is why I was only talking about Arche really.  She's the only character where what you hear is what you get.  The spell names are all in English (albeit stated in katakana form).  Like I said, I'm not too wrapped up in the details, just offering an opinion.

I don't mind the names of the spells Rock Mountain or God's Breath. I don't care if you change the names of the moves like Majinken or anything. But you could always keep the spell names anyway. And I'm pretty sure God's Breath is different from Judgement in the english games. The spell is wind elemental, not holy.

Reminds me of how they changed Indignation in Tales of Destiny to Holy Judgement, yet Philia clearly says "Indignation."
