I know this is a semi-old topic, but I thought I'd share my own front cover design. My intent was to make a high-resolution cover that was as "authentic" as possible, retaining both the original art/logos of the Japanese cover and the packaging standards of North American Playstation releases. The image/text placement of the Japanese cover didn't end up lending itself to the US "spine" nearly as well as I thought it would; The title either ended up being half cropped out, or a good portion of Mint ended up being covered by the Playstation "spine". This resulted in a lot of work to re-arrange things, but It turned out really well in the end.
In the intrest of authenticity, I made a second version of the cover art (Version B) which uses the "spraypaint" ESRB logo, as that was the standard style used by the ESRB in back in 1998 (the year ToP PS1 was released.) Although I prefer the more modern logo (version A), the "spraypaint" version's there for those of you who want historical accuracy (Although I don't know if any of you overanalyze these things as much as I do...)
I don't have a webserver, so I hope megaupload will do.

Download: (both images are in the RAR archive)

I'd like to try and do the same thing with the back cover, but I'm not able to translate the description as I can't speak a word of Japanese. If anybody out there can translate the text of the back cover, I'd appreciate the help.
Edit: I've changed the download link to a newer version of the covers, as the files I posted before were missing a few fixes I made around Arche's broom/hand.

Very cool. If you're looking for translations of the back of the box, I actually did some of the SFC, PSX, and PSP versions. I put them in my guide here:
Tales of Phantasia Translation Guide
Do a CTRL+F for Box Art Translation in that text file if you're interested. I had the Best Hits version, so if the original version was different, I don't know.

That's pretty hot. I'll locally host the full versions on the site when the project's released, if that sounds good to you.
Wonder if there's any interest in someone designing a high-quality DVD-style cover for it, too. The Metal Gear Solid Essential Collection contains the PS1 Metal Gear Solid, but in a PS2-style DVD case.

Thanks! It didn't occur to me that your translation guide had the package descriptions as well. I'll see if I can do something with the back cover. It's quite lettered with Japanese text from all three alphabets, but if I can clean it up I should be able to get the description in there.

That sounds great! Especially since the Megaupload file will eventually expire.

As far as DVD sized version goes, I should be able to put one together based on the images you provided. If I can find a bigger, uncropped version of the pic used for the ToP PS1 boxart, I could show more of the image on the taller case like the PSP version. I've seen the full version of the picture on another Tales of Phantasia fansite, though its resolution was too low to be of much use. A high resolution scan of the PSP box might be useful as well. In any event, I'll keep you posted.

I dunno if this is of any use for anything (maybe the spine?), but here's the logo as it occurs in the game files:

I gave it a try.
I also included No-Logo versions of the two Front Covers, so you can place your own "Tales of Phantasia" and "Namco" Logos (or what have you) however you like.
High Quality, uncompressed bitmap versions of all four images are contained in a single Zipfile.
[
Download Link
]
Code:
The Zipfile Contains:
ToP [DVD Style] Case Insert 1 (Edited).bmp Front, Spine & Back 3233 x 2144 pixels @ 304 dpi
ToP [DVD Style] Case Insert 2 (Edited).bmp Front, Spine & Back 3233 x 2144 pixels @ 304 dpi
ToP [DVD Style] Case Insert 1 (Raw).bmp Front Only, No Logos 1312 x 2144 pixels
ToP [DVD Style] Case Insert 2 (Raw).bmp Front Only, No Logos 1312 x 2144 pixels
I didn't include the CD Labels, as they are in zipfiles in earlier posts by me, on the first page of this thread.

By the way, if you use a Clear DVD Case, you could print this on the back side of the Case Insert.
Example:
ToP_DVD_Style_Inside.zip
Code:
Zipfile Contents:
ToP_DVD_Style_Inside.bmp 1312 x 2144 pixels @ 300 dpi
You may need to choose "Borderless" printing in your printer setup when you print this on the Back of the paper, so that you won't have any gaps along the borders when you cut it out. Don't forget to choose "Matte Paper" in your printer dialog box, as the 'Paper Type'.
I don't work for Epson or anything, but I highly reccomend using their "Double Sided Photo Paper, Matte Finish". (50 Sheets)
Here's a link to it at Staples
An easy way to find it at a diffrent store, is to look for it's model number: S041568

It's a nice effort, but it looks like those cover images (especially the one of the original cover art) don't lend themselves well to the aspect ratio of the DVD cases. I guess that's the primary issue. The PSP cover might work, though, but I'm unable to provide any scans, let alone an HQ scan of it. Failing that, it seems like something custom may need to be used.
But what you want to do is up to you. I'll post just about any cover art submissions.

I finally found a high-quality (non-cropped) scan, but the right-hand side of the image is curved and a little blurry.
So I tried cropping it myself (and doing a resize so it'll fit in my above DVD Case versions with a simple copy and paste), but it is cropped diffrently than the one on the PSP Game Case.
Also, the background color splash is Blue in this scan, but the PSP's is green.
You can
to see it for yourself.
I think that the person who scanned it, did so from a Tales of Phantasia Art Book, and didn't want to mess up the Spine of the book, or cut/tear out the page.
I went ahead and included both in the Zipfile.
ToP_DVD_Cover_3_HQ.zip
Hopefully, someone out there can sharpen up and correct the curved part of it, and add all of the needed logos, text and icons, and maybe even change the Blue into Green, so that it'll look really cool.
I'll take a trip to Fry's this weekend and see if they have any ToP Full Voice Edition PSP imports for sale.
Hopefully, they'll have some first run editions, because the Greatest Hits version has a weird cover.
If it doesn't cost like $100 I'll pick it up, and scan the case insert (front, spine, rear ~ all one piece) and every page of the manual for you all (I just gotta remove a couple of staples, right?).
Perhaps someone could translate it and make a pdf outta my scans, and resize it so it's about the same size as a PS2 Game Manual, that we could download, and print out? Yeah, it's a bit of a reach, but who knows?
If it is cost prohibitive, I'll take some pictures of the back, and try to match the layout and design as closely as I can. It's the least I can do.
I am looking foward to ThePirateMike's translation of the PSOne Version's Japanese back cover. At the very least, I wish I had a high quality scan of it.
I mean, all I have is this:

Here's an example image that shows my Version 3 and Version 4 covers.
ToP_DVD_Front_Ver_3.zip
This zipfile only contains the Ver 3 cover, with logos added (as pictured above).
I really like the look of the Version 4. It's the one used for the PSP Full Voice Edition cover.
However, the image I used to make the v4 example is of low quality, and looks grainy when printed, so I didn't include it in the Zipfile.
Hopefully, I'll be able to get a high quality scan of it soon.

If this is going on the books, this is the direct translation for the original idea.
"The great/grand adventure that transcended time, the P-LMBS battle system that's just like an action game. Plus, Kousuke Fujishima's designs of utterly charming characters. Namco presents the legendary fantasy role-playing game, appearing on PlayStation at last!"
"The grand adventure that transcended time, harnessing the spirit of action games in the form of the P-LMBS battle system, and brought to life by Kousuke Fujishima's charming character designs. Namco presents the legendary fantasy role-playing game, debuting on PlayStation at last!"
Anyway, I dunno if these are just mockups or whatever, but it seems some screencaps being used are not PP's, so just a heads-up for later. I happen to like the green background pic, but I think of it as kinda tied to the PSP version... Not to mention it says Full Voice Edition there. Same thing with logo authenticity; the PSX version should only use the grey one with no bg.

Actually, all of them are. They're just old and don't completely resemble what it looks like now.
Anyway, the new DVD cover is definitely looking better than previous.
