I played the whole game:

Is a new translation really neccessary? I would be a waste of work doing things twice.

you where saying if a new translation was really worth it , i would say yes. I have played the other translation and there a lot of thing who dont make sense, the menu and font are not even center in the battle , if i remember correctly there are supposed to be a guy to tell you about the odin tower in future , but there no more on that translation, if you want something of greater , top shape quality wait for cless translation , if you dont care about reading or graphics just play the other,    well at least its my opinion

New Translation? Twice? Seriously are you on drugs my friend? PP has been doing this translation for about 10years before whoever fan translation group work on such bootleg version of theirs. TOP is my favorite Tales series and it should be done professionally with high quality and not just some translation and call it done.

This is such a tired topic. There's no reason that two projects can't co-exist. There is also no reason that you need to tear one group down just to support the other.

than it's okay, it's just a confusing thought that people are retranslating things which are already decent enough to play. I really couldn't find any flaws in grammar or something else.

that was not my intention. I've read some posts which sounded like "oh my god there is a translation which has never existed I waited so long for this derp derp".

You clearly have it backwards, this isn't a retranslation, nobody is retranslating anything here.

Retranslating to my understanding would be picking the existing translation game script and based on it embelish/tweak/change a few things or translate it into another language altogether without going through the original material (japanese script) a retranslation is effectively what lots of european localizations do based on the "original" english translated script. Since here no one is basing themselves on it though, it doesn't comply as such. it's a translation, re prefix intentionally dropped.

Also, you're free not to get it since like you said it's already "decent enough to play", nobody is asking anyone to wait longer for this to get done in order to play it, if anything it's existence even took some of the urgency and pressure out of this translation, which is something I'm sure Cless and others actually appreciate and feel let's them focus better on the quality they want to achieve. They'll be different translations and one will not necessarily ridicule the other though, and that's not the intent.

This translation project started before the one you mention though, and by the time that one came out they didn't feel like dropping all those years of hacks and knowhow, which is fine and understandable.

To answer your question; no it's something that's not really necessary, you can play the game in english already, and I'd argue even the first translation wasn't really necessary because we have ToP SNES translated for years. But it's good the have the choice right?

Well, even if this were the case for Cless (which it's not), what's wrong with retranslating a game anyway? That's basically what I did with Tales of Rebirth and the majority of people seem to like having an alternative translation available to them. And if someone else decides to translate Rebirth again, then great! The way I see it, it's just more love for the game.  Wink

Tales of Rebirth translation... Since when? By translation you mean a txt file (like on gamefaqs) of the script or something like that right? I've never seen any type of patch for that, but if it exists many fans would be happy to see it ^_^

Ah, I thought Lanyn meant there was a patch by saying "there's a translation already out"  haha .

But yeah I noticed that youtube vid translation soon after, very good work and it's actually complete, I think (last I heard anyway) great job Lanyn Grin.
