This thread is a new general progress thread for Tales of Phantasia PSX. It will be used for organization (progress topics are thinly spread apart) and to minimize website maintenance since most project news gets posted on these forums long before getting posted to the website.

To start off, Shinhoshi is back on board for the script translation.

Tales of Destiny 2 is progressing rapidly at this point, which might be worrying some into thinking this project is on hold in favor of it.

So I'd just like to remind people that ToP is actually a far more difficult project than ToD2-- it still requires a number of major programming hacks to put into a releasable state. I currently am not capable of doing these myself.

ToD2 requires no major programming hacks, and any programming hacks that need to be done are merely minor cosmetic enhancements that aren't required for playability.

All right! Just having a translator back on board is major progress as far as I'm concerned.  You say Shinhoshi is 'back on board'.  Was he originally part of the staff for it and then left or something?  I've not been around all that long, so I was just curious.

Would I be right in thinking that ToD2 will probably still be finished before ToP?  I guess that all depends on how fast the translators work and your preferences.  I've really got no preference as to which is finished first or even how long it takes, so I'm really not trying to rush you along or anything.  In any case, best of luck on both projects, I'm looking forward to seeing them complete.

By the way, are we not supposed to post in this 'progress thread'?  I wasn't really thinking about it, but I guess you might just want this to stay news only.  Feel free to delete this post if that's the case.

Based on everything that has been said, if both scripts were completed at the same time, Tales of Destiny 2 would still be first by a long shot due to the lack of much more complicated technical issues.

Ah, one less thing for me to worry about. Would she rather start from the middle than from the beginning?

Cyllya predicts:
--Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World will reveal that Ratatosk was involved in ToS's last required scene in Heimdall.
--Tales of Vesperia's plot will involve space aliens in some way

Cless, I was wondering, would you be opposed to posting up the original script dump for ToP PSX?  I only ask because you posted the Tales of Destiny 2 script dump but I couldn't seem to ever find the ToP script dump.  I figured it might just have been an old file on the site that has since been taken down.  I hate to ask, I feel like I'm just a pest by doing so, but I was really hoping to get a hold of the  Japanese script.

I realize that the ToP PSX project is currently taking a backseat to the ToD2 one, but I have to wonder.  With all the happenings over working on ToD2's Menu, is there still this kind of stuff that has to be done with ToP?  I saw you had Menu Translation at 85% on the main site and in almost all of the screenshots you've done, it looks like just about everything is finished.  What's still left to be done for ToP's menu?

Hmm... I forgot to update that. It's 100% now, barring any editing.
