Hey Cless, will the TOP for GBA release going to impact the PSX translation you're currently working on? Or will you tend more towards the Dejap version?

Personally, I found Dejap's version to be quite humorous (though the Alvanista scene went just a tad bit overboard); it made the game that much more enjoyable.

I myself am a heavy ToP fan, and am truly grateful to what you're doing. Would love to see some more pics though =P. Thanks for doing this project!!

There is a FAQs right at the top of this board.
http://forum.tales-cless.org/index.php?topic=3.0

A few quotes from there relevent to your question

What about the official english GBA script?

I'll definitely be paying attention to see how some things are translated, which may influence our project in some ways. Although I haven't gotten any solid confirmation yet, I have been hearing that for whatever reason, the GBA script is largely based on the SNES script, which is a big no-no. And of course, the PSX version still has its exclusive parts.

What about the character names? Some are being changed offically...

Yeah, Cless is being "changed" to Cress and Klarth is being "changed" to Claus, those evil bastards (cough). While I still retain my opinion that these changes are hardly worth complaining about, and that there is probably good reason for having these changes in the official translation anyway, I have to say that we probably won't be using them in our own work. Why we probably won't, I honestly don't know. I mean, we're changing just about everything else to conform to official standards, but for this, I just can't bring myself to have it done. And no, it's not really a personal preference thing.

The official translation can and probably will influence NPC names, though. Except Klarth's assistant, anyway (she's being called Milard, which is a man's name! It's an R and L switch, but we're most likely calling her Mirald, which seems to have a much more feminine feel to it, even if it's not a "normal" name).

Thanks a lot Kogahazan. I just asked the first thing that came to my mind and was obviously not conscious enough to realize that there's an FAQ stickied =P... Please excuse the n00bness. Won't happen again.

It's not like there are a significant number of posts on this forum anyway, I don't see why everyone jumps on people for not reading the FAQ.  At least replying to a common question gave you something to do.

Oh. I'm not really the type to get angry if someone doesn't read the FAQs. It happens. If I was angry at him, then I would have not pulled some quotes for him. I guess it might be hard to tell my mood from lack of emotion in that post.
