One very dumb thing in the cooking menu. I have no idea what to do about it:

(NO! The patch will not look like that. I'm too lazy to take another screen; the font fun was the result of a test)

You see... "Optional" and "# Optional Ingredients Needed" work quite fine until you hit the stupid Fruit Cocktail.

Any sense it made has been thrown out the window thanks to this stupid thing. I really dunno what to do with it.

ToP GBA is absolutely zero help, probably using something translated via babelfish. "From # type". Yes, that's what it says.

And before anyone nitpicks, yes, this particular menu is in much need of refinement and some text needs to repositioned so that it's centered.

"Choose #" is yuck when you have no say in what's chosen. Tongue

well, yeah, but you get the idea Tongue

that's basically what the japanese version says. "# will be used" would work, i guess.

With some moving of text, "And X of these ingredients" is possible. ("Optional" become the "And" part, and "X Optional ingredients" becomes "X of these ingredients". As Optional only goes on screen when there are required ingredients, it should always make sense, more or less.)

Though that might require some additional hacking...

Or I suppose you could use "X of the above"?

the "Optional" title could be something more like "Garnishes", which just sounds more culinary to me.  Alternately, since they're necessary, "Options" makes way more sense: optional means you could do without any/all of them.

As for the 10choose5 (needs more statistics equations)   scenario, just remove "Optional" from the # needed line.  I mean, "5 Ingredients Needed" or "1 Ingredient Needed" makes way more sense, you don't need an identifier if the needed stuff is always underscoring the proper section.  I would actually remove the "Ingredients" or make it say "Ingredient(s)" because of the nature of plurals in Japanese versus English and how it's an easy grammar mistake to avoid.

Synonyms for needed that might work:

must use #
must have #
# necessary
