maybe people can submit backgrounds like they did for the icons, I know I'd like to have a go.

What purpose would it serve to change the background?  I mean, there's a certain level of change where you start changing the game itself, right?  I feel that changing the backgrounds crosses right into that; maybe non-text graphics changes have their proponents, but I cannot count myself among them.

Well, the background isn't terribly difficult to change, but I don't have any problems with it. I think it's a tad more interesting than the simple gradient the SNES version used, myself. The color can be changed if you like, but I'm a blue man and like the default...

Yay!! You know what? I'm a BlueMan too! But strangely, this background is a bit "out of the way". But what suck most in it, are those beveled borders. Anyway, have a look at this background sample:

See ya!

The borders are actually polygons that are generated in code. So they're kind of hard to mess with...

Anyway, here's something that happened by accident when messing with the code awhile back... I screwed up the generation of the top border.

The beveled borders are great, the blue is good, the texture sucks.

Oh my..! No good then.. so..  thanks for trying it out. But is surprinsing to see that they use polygons for redenring this mess. I wish they had used some better texture then... anyway, I can't wait to play the game!! I have the Dejap SNes version, but, ever since I have seen the project, I said to myself: I'll wait for this to play the game... back there, in 2003 =)

Been bothering me so I have to ask.  I remember seeing a screenshot of TOP and you replaced the battle sprites with the PSP ones.

Does TOP use Sprite Assembly in any form?  Or is it just whole images loaded and sprites put over them.

ToP just loads a compressed archive with multiple frames.

The PSP version sprites are in exactly the same format with the frames in the same order as PSX so it was just a very simple file swapping operation...

I see.  Your pretty damn lucky there if I do say so myself.  Sprite Assembly is such a pain.

Just being curious, doesn't swapping the sprites give you any problem with collision detection?

It shouldn't by that much.  Considering they're almost the same size.  Unless when he copied over the files it moved over the collision detection as well.

Yeah, I brought this up on the old forum. Everyone told me it would be impossible because of the sprite collision. It seems like its not the case, judging by the psp game. I doubt they changed any collision detection at all. The psp porting people people are probably just as lazy as everyone else!

As long as the sprites are practically the same size, collision detection won't make that much of a difference.

Where can I find these screenshots? I like the psp version sprites, because they look more like Tales Of Eternia sprites (and remember me from that bastard at the colliseum, some blonde guy called Cless, so damn hard to beat him!!!)

A quick perusal of the News subforum (in this subforum) has brought forth this little nugget.
