On the Tales of Phantasia Translation page I say that one of the things that was added to the patch was a new playable character. I can't think of anyone who would be playable (besides the NPCs you got in the game but thats a waste of time for at least the 1st one) so I'm dieing to know who the character is. Anyone have any guesses?

Also I wanted to ask if the PSP style sprites were going to be used. I had saw how the idea was attempted but I don't know if the idea is still being worked on. Thanks in advance.

I think you may be confused.  One of the things that was added to the game was a new playable character.  Unless I really missed something, I don't think Cless is adding any new characters.  If you're asking about the PSP version, I'm assuming you already know who the new character to the PSX version was.  But I don't know about the sprites, that's up to Cless.

actually, rhea and brambard are newly playable characters. brambard will be getting a full UESC (United Elven Special Corps) weapons cache replete with sniper bows, spartan bows, etc., while rhea is a combination melee fistfighter and spellcaster, only available by getting arche re-possessed.

About the PSP sprites, I personally think those should be avoided.
Or at least for the time being till some talented sprite artist(s) steps up to the task of finishing the job Namco started.

Anyone who've played the PSP version for some time probably noticed that for some stupid reason, the PSP sprites is only a half-complete job which leaves a lot of humanoid characters with the old SD look. This looks rather inconsistent and bad in my opinion.

Yeah I noticed that too. But I meant for the battle sprites of Cress and gang.

Thats the image I was talking about.

I dunno about the sprites.. isnt it a bit too far using content from another games? That would upset someone in Namco  Roll Eyes

What's funny, is I kinda like the squishie ones from the PSX version better. Hee hee, they're so cute. XD

But either way I don't mind on the sprite thing. If the scripts are the same, I'd be more interested in ripping the "full voice" aspect of the PSP version and applying it to the PSX--though for some reason I get the feeling that'd be a nightmare and a half. LOL

Actually I like them do. I don't know why I just do.

I'd say the best way to do it would be to use the PSP sprites for Cress and the gang and use the ToE sprites for monsters. Thats just me though.
