This is why name changes annoy me... the fighting. As if anyone who can't tell two different romanizations of the same name are the same thing has any business using entertainment media from a foreign country. I'm going to start refering to all the characters in katakana and see how everyone likes that.

How do random fans know what the developers clearly intended to call something? The argument that they are simply too ignorant and apathetic to spell their intended name correctly is certainly true in many cases, but how does one end up at "Klarth" by accident? Klars or Klarse I could understand, but that th had to take deliberate effort at misspelling.

Whenever I see the Cless/Cress debate, I always think of a story I heard from D on the subject.

In one game (not sure which) he saw a female character clearly and uneqivocally named 'Blenda' in the Japanese manual. Understandably, he said he would change it to 'Brenda' to match what the developers clearly intended to call her rather than leaving her sharing a name with a common kitchen appliance.

The moral of the story is that these games and their related manuals are made by Japanese people with only a rudimentary understanding of English (which is still better than my understanding of Japanese). They make lots of mistakes and frequently value aesthetics over actual meaning. Placing absolute trust in them when it comes to a translation is missing the point. There are more important factors to be considered.

Don't think I'm complaining but I'm just stating some people might startt war on what they think Cless/Cress should be called.

Cless/Cress could be called Cleth/Creth by that logic. I don't have much to add... The only real reason there's an argument is when it looks like it's a very obvious mistake or the spelling was on purpose and people think it wasn't.

I'm back on again. I'll tend to leave it going most of the time unless I want to play a game or something, then I turn it off to get some processor speed back.

EDIT: I'm having Thunderstorms in my area and I am disconecting until they pass in the morning. Torrent seeding will resume tomorrow.
