  • What is game about?
  • How does it play like?
  • Is it a sequel to Tales of Phantasia or just a spin-off bearing the name?
  • Where can I order it?
  • For those who have played it, is it any good?

Thanks.

It's basically a sequel in storyline to ToP but it plays more like a spinoff. It has a gimmicky turn-based battle system that is designed to resemble older Tales.

I think your only hope of getting this game is Yahoo Japan... it's kinda rare.

I'm not honestly much of a fan of it (have never really cared for any of the Tales spinoffs I've played). I only started the project cause it was related to ToP. (with that logic I should've also started a project on Summoner's Lineage, but I just never had the motivation to do that...)

Summoner's Lineage is also a sequel?

I've enjoyed the little I've experienced on ND3 and was hoping it would be like it. Turn based battles in general, I don't mind, but it'll feel weird with a Tales game.

I thought the battle system was nicely designed, and this is coming from someone who hates turn-based. It's not menu-based or anything. The problem was the random battles took too long (because the enemies took lots of hits to kill... that might just be me being bad at the game though).

I think the game's big flaw was that it was far longer than it had justification for being.

But ToP's plot is horribly one-sided without it.

If it isn't menu-based then what is it like? Pseudo-turn based like KOTOR?

Also, can you like give an overview of what the plot here is like? I could very well pick it up if it sounds interesting to me. I know basically nothing about what the storyline here covers.

Mel and Dio have to go on a journey to prove to this randomly appearing supernatural being that they aren't inherantly evil. That's not as nonsensical as it sounds, but the beginning is really ambiguous, and further explanation is major spoilers. Along the way, you get to see how the ToP PC's are faring post-ToP and also see what caused the whole conflict in ToP (yay timetravel).

The only other game I know of that's turn-based but not menu-based is Valkyrie Profile, so that's all I can compare it too. It's like the other Tales games except everyone has a fixed spot and only one person can act a time. You control one character, the AI controls the others, but you can give them commands via the menu if you want. You push A for a basic attack; RIGHT+A, UP+A, or DOWN+A for a skill (you can use the menu for your skills too, if three equipped isn't enough); LEFT+A to defend; start (or was it select) to change target. Some classes have a "combo" attack with a special effect (e.g. more damage) if you push the A button again at the right time while doing a basic attack.

Wow, sounds pretty good!

One of my minor irk with ToP is its lack of focus on Dhaos' perspective, does this game cover anything about where Dhaos was coming from?

Anything involving Jessica from DQ is most likely porn in his book.

Eh, no. VIII was the first game that had a "sexy" character. By the way, if your browser has an image or ad blocking function you can simply block individual signatures and avatars (either for being too large or obnoxiously animated).. it's a must for any kind of forum that has any kind of an "anime" audience.
