It's sad Cless had to post this. Anyone who thinks for a minute would know this isn't your generic "fan" hack and thus wouldn't be using someone's else's translation.

The thing that kills me is, if so many people know about that particular fan translation and want it to be used for this project, then why don't they just use it to play through the game instead of waiting for the patch? 

On the bright side though, there seem to be fewer people asking about the release date for the patch now. ^^;;

well because it's just not the same as playing through the game and understanding the text. it kind of kills it when you have to stop playing and look up what people are saying. i guess people want to use that translation to make things go by faster which i can find very understandable.

i understand why Cless doesn't want to use other people's work though.

People are ignorant... Anyone who has ever used Kirby's script translation should've realized that it's so rough and full of holes that reworking and revising it would probably take just as long as retranslating the whole thing properly from scratch. 

(No offense to Kirby though, because he's still awesome).

I was way more offended when people suggested that I use this for Innocence. It was just like... damn, people really have low expectations for me. The ToDr wiki has some issues, but I hear it's at least readable. The ToI one has really glaring oversights.

Another thing that people don't realize when they ask for others to use something like that is;

It's not exactly very user friendly in a technical way.

• You'd have to copy in every single string to its respective spot (well, that'd kinda happen no matter what, but "Writing Lots of Text > Copy 'n Paste Lots of Text")
• You'd have to have find some way to make sure that you get stuff into the right spot. (Play game -> Follow Wiki -> Search DB for original Text -> Copy Wiki text into DB)
• You'd have to take a whole lot of extra care. The chances of errors/mistakes are huge. (Thanks to the incredibly complicated procedure...)

And, of course, at the end of the day you'd have to have someone go through the English vs Japanese anyway, so you could just as well translate everything from ground up and save yourself a whole lot of trouble.

In defense, this project has been moving pretty quickly!
It's only just been active a year and they are so close to a full Menu translation.
They've already dumped the script and skits and are translating them which is really amazing.
This project is like lightning fast.

In defence of the idea of posting the link to the site, being the first one to post this (I think, I do not know to be honest), was that it was the only thing I could find in terms of wanting to help.

I honestly thought that: "Maybe it can help the team!! I got to tell them!!" and it had nothing to do with "They have to get it done... fast fast fast!!!" and I am sorry if it did sound like the later. I apologize, I just wanted to help in anyway seeing as I have no skills in programming nor japanese. It was not a matter of disrespect towards neither the site nor the team here. But only a mere dumb peasant wanting to help ^^

Not that I have been around for a very long time or have been posting frequently I believe in the team. I believe this will be very awesome and I'll wait through it, no matter how long it takes. Kudos to you guys, you are the best!

I think that its just a suggestion but its ok that cless make a post to make know what to expect from him and his team, i have played this game with the wiki translation and there are many many un translated parts, and also this its just for the normal tales of destiny not for the DC, i think cless is right and he must use its own translational, for not be called a stealer Xp and for his pride.

I am quite late to the party but hello.

This is Kirby from the todrtrans wiki. I actually quite appreciate this post. I think it's very tactful that you won't use someone else's translation in anyway, only your own work.

It's been a long time and I was looking over my old translations. I must say yes it is quite rough. I heard that the project was resumed, and if there is any change, (while rough and not up to my current standards) I offer whatever is on that wiki (well, the translations at least, other people also gratefully worked on other parts of the wiki and I have no heard from them in a while).

Even if you don't use it at all, if there are any questions about translating ToD or if any help is needed, please contact me.
