Can you actually play this game w/ english patch on a real PS2? How is it done? And BTW, I'm REALLY sorry if like 1000 people already asked that. I know that I obviously need the real ToD2 game(Using PS2 emus feel just wrong to me).

You will need:

-The original PS2 Game.
You use the original PS2 game to make an ISO file using a program such as DVD Dcrypter.
You can download the game from various torrent sites but you'll have to find that yourself because it's not good form for us to post links here because it's illegal.

-A DVD Burning program (such as the example given above) to burn the patched ISO onto disc/make an ISO onto your disk drive so you can use the patch to make the translation.

-A way of playing it on your PS2. This means either using a boot disc such as Swap Magic, a HD loader or a simple Modded PS2.

In short, the actual answer to your question is no. You can't just slot it into an untouched PS2 because it won't read the disc. You need one of the things mentioned above. Most people go with modded HD Loaders these days. They don't void your warrenty and they arn't particular hard to set up.

Oh! One more thing: If Namco decides to wake up and smell the coffee and release Destiny 2, will this project get put down?
What is Namco announces it but like 3 months later they cancel it?

In an interview Namco were asked by the fans why it wasn't released and they said it was because of the fact it was 2D and since many 3D games were out they did not think it would sell because it looks like it's taken a step back down to a PSX game.
That's a good reason, IMO. It wouldn't have sold well at all, the graphics fit a PSX game and Tales of Destiny PSX was already ancient at the time.

that makes little sense to me, though. the very notion that 2D graphics aren't good enough, so it won't sell well is totally ridiculous. all 3D really provides you is the possibility of more "frames" of animation without having to draw each one and store it on the disc/in memory. would you say ToD2 characters are far too lacking in animation compared to ToS or ToA characters? the other huge benefit, highly dynamic camera angles, isn't even capitalized on in the tales series all that much. hell, you could probably remake ToS and ToA in "2D" and have it look almost the same. AND the PS2 2D games have great performance with relatively snappy load times. it's not like ToA was an incredibly great looking game, and its load times were atrocious thanks to its halfassed engine -- why would something like that automatically be considered better than any 2D game?

also, NIS seems to do 2D just fine, even still. are their sales numbers too low for bamco or something?

For me 2D will always be more detailed and have more emotion. Look at ToA, you cant see the angry faces when they attack, or the detailed movement of them.
3D seems soulless, even Tales of Vesperia faces seem to have no soul to them, I know that in events 3D > 2D, for obvious "Camera super epic angles" reasons, but for battles and what-not 2D is obviously better

Is it the same reason for Rebirth? What about Innocence?

no soul? i don't know about THAT. even abyss's models had definite soul. vesperia's are absolutely great. not sure if their mouths move or their eyebrows furrow or anything during battle, though.

Okay bamco really. Do you really believe that's why it wouldn't sell well? It couldn't be lack of marketing? When ever I watch videos of tales of destiny 2, tales of destiny R/DC, and tales of rebirth I can't help but feel they look amazing.

EDIT: If they really thought that a western audience would find 2d on the ps2 unacceptable it would not be the case with the psp version. Bamco just dropped the ball that's it.

In battle all models faces are printed in ToA, I am sure Luke opens the mouth, but I am sure they dont even close their eyes when they get hurt. (Remembers Guy in the ground with eyes open)
They might be cool for events, but for battle they look sorta like puppets moving.
Tales of vesperia models are really cool, take aside the little facial movement theyve got, but I still prefer 2D-detailed, frame by frame characters

If they did ToD2 back in the day, all Team Destiny games might've fallen into place.

Ok, if they're releasing only 3D games here, why didn't Innocence come?
