Short answer "Yes". ToD2 is on a hiatus.

But in a more detailed manner;

Translations are handled by Lanyn (who's kindly offered to take all the blame for any translation speed related issues)

So if any progress is made, it'll be only "on paper" and not in the game, yet ('cause that'd be Cless' job!)

I'm still hoping to be able to juggle ToDrDC and ToD2 a bit back 'n forth between eachother, to make sure they both work in perfect harmony and all that.

hahahahahaha it's funny how everybody keeps on siding on Cless, "he's busy, give him a break. he's sick, don't disturb him. he's tired, don't badmouth him". come'on guys! by hoping that he'll complete it just because you're siding on him is simply stupid. Sorry guys, just doing a little sh*t won't get him my respect. he's all talk no action. this project has been going on for 4 yrs! believe me, he's nowhere near DeJap level. i don't think Cless will work on this project anymore. let alone complete it. just forget that guy and learn japanese instead.  [if you read this message Cless, two thumbs down for you] good luck faithful hopeless fans! adios!

Yeah. I guess you better start learning some Japanese then. Adiós!

And not that I will ever know, but wouldn't you just feel so proud of yourself when you come back to download our patches. Just absolutely brimming with pride amirite?! But of course, you'd never come back again, oh no.

I think that thread Carn linked to is gone now, but yes, you should be yelling at me instead of Cless since I'm one of the translators for this project. It's not like I have some infallible, amazing excuse for not translating anything for 5 months either; I've been burned out (I don't have Cless' stamina apparently since I only lasted 1.5 years   haha) and to be honest, I was on the verge of saying screw it to ToD2 up until about a month ago. I will say though that one of the reasons why I'm sticking with the project is because I had a lot of people supporting me regardless of what decision I came to, and that personally ended up making all of the difference for me.

In any case though, you're free to be cynical or critical or whatever, but always keep in mind that everyone who is working on this project (or any fan project, for that matter) is another living, breathing person who loves to play games and enjoy life just like you. But in addition to that (and in some cases, instead of having fun), we are volunteering our own time so that other people can have a better one. So in that light, the LEAST that someone could do is give us some understanding when we do get sick/tired/frustrated/busy, especially since that's something which everyone can relate to (and if for some reason you can't, then I want your life. Now.  Tongue).

And to address the other part of your post, no, I am not as good as DeJap in terms of translating and I never will be.   Wink

What's DeJap?
And I don't mind waiting for Cless' patches, they look like they're going to be worth the wait.
Anyway, it's not like they're unplayable in Japanese--there's plenty of guides! Cless' patches just make things nicer and give them a localized feel.

Btw, why did uzabe get deleted just for saying that? That doesn't look very good...

DeJap was a fan translation group (now defunct) that was well known for the English translation for the Super Famicom Tales of Phantasia.  Yeah, they were the one known for..."that scene".  You know the one I'm talking about!  And I'm not going to bother with a direct reference since it became such a meme or something like that!

As for that other question...not for me to answer.

He deleted himself.

I don't delete accounts unless they're spammers or new users who fail to activate their accounts within a certain time period.

I can't tell if that wink makes it sarcasm or not, but don't sell yourself short; your translations are great from what little I've seen of the subs! Nice flow, natural phrasing (especially got a kick out of some of the post-battle repartee trans), for both spoken and written dialogue. And you've maintained the characters' motivations and voice, something that DeJap has violated on many occasions to be more chic/colloquial (or really, they just kinda had their own agenda in terms of the end-product they wanted). Glad you're at the helm.

Speaking of commitments and stuff! I'm almost done with some of the other stuff I've been working on! Which should give me more time to focus on "Tales stuff" once the time is right for that again... unless I suddenly accept more responsibility from elsewhere and start toying around with more "other" stuff haha

What's DeJap?

Ye young whippersnappers and ye' no knowin' who them DeJaps be!
As Cless Aileron pointed out, they're an old fan translation group. They left a rather strong legacy by, amongst other notable stuff, pretty much doing what many saw as the impossible by taking on both Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean on the SNES. Both of which were grand projects and more or less considered the last holy grails of untranslated JRPGs on the SNES.

I'm looking forward to see how things turn out. I'm one of those people who'll continue to juggle projects. So there'll be a whole lot of stuff that'll evt. have to be cross-checked between ToD2 and ToDrDC (+compared to the PS1 version and other Tales games). And, well, both those projects appears to be in good hands as far as the translation side of things goes. Which reminds me... I need to continue my ToD PS1 stuff once I've got a few things sorted out. Busy days!

(I may take the blame for one thing ToD2 related, though... There is a text batch that I was supposed to go through and which has been in my possession for a looooong time now. Ooops! Roll Eyes)

Heh heh, thanks! ^^ I was being mostly sarcastic (I knew that I should have put a laughing smiley instead  haha), although I must admit that I haven't actually played the patch myself nor have I seen too many lines aside from the famous (infamous?) tiger one. Keeping the dialogue in character and getting the script to flow are probably the most challenging aspects for me in terms of translating though, so I'm glad that you like it.  Smiley

Yeah, I'm kinda juggling projects as well even though I really shouldn't be...I was hoping for a synergistic effect, but we'll see. ^^;;

Well, you can't possibly be slower than yours truly, so you won't be hearing any complaints from me.  haha

So, I've been following this site for a long time... and just decided to join. (same Flamfas from TSF, for those of you who go there)

I just wanted to say that you guys have been doing welling juggling all your projects. Finally seeing Phantasia done in what is hopefully the near future will be very satisfying.

To be completely honest, I won't actually play your PSX version patch; I'm content with my sub-par GBA version. But I support you guys in finishing it; you've been at it for a long time and it's definitely too late to quit, and there are surely some people out there who will enjoy it.

Anyway, I will say that I'm very excited about this ToD2 patch. I've been lurking around this site for well over a year, so I thought it about time to come introduce myself and say that your effort will be appreciated. ^_^;
