hi im new here, im from venezuela, & i have always been interested in how games are translated, the programing skills needed and how to achieve it.

- is there any good guide for beginners that you guys recomend?

- also im learning japanese right now, can i help on any way?
i was thinking maybe post some parts of the main scripts and we can all give it a try. there might be a group (topic) that translates it (of course dont use babel fish LoL) and another group (topic) that does revisions of it. we can split the script into topics.

example:
topic:
translation scripts
subtopic:
script001.txt (part 1) --> you enter the topic reply with your translation, someone checks it, give their opinions and if its good it will be used. and posted in the revision topic with the final conjuction of everyone reply.

is this possible? i think is a really good way to help, i will be more than glad to give it a try.

There are a lot of good beginner guides and tutorials for the hacking aspects over on Romhacking Dot net. Unfortunately, PS1 and PS2 (along with many other platforms) are still pretty uncharted water for a lot of stuff (basically, unless you get all super techy, you'll pretty much find yourself limited to the initial capabilities of the game and whatever formats are either already documented by others or evt. easy to figure out and documented by yourself)

As for ToD2, there's actually actually a sub-board here for public translation efforts, where segments are put for translation/proof-reading/etc... It's a bit slow as people haven't been too active lately + there are other things on Cless's end that probably should get attention first (*cough*ToP*cough*), and there's also some stuff for it that's currently in my filthy hands haha (Damn! I need to find some motivation in a can to finish that, as I too have been distracted by other nasty little things.)

Anyway, the translation forum isn't very organized (Don't blame me! But then again, Cless seems to be on top of things going on in there.)
