PSP version analyzed (project not happening)

While it is very, very similar to the PS2 game, ToD2 PSP appears to use a new variance on the original compression schemes.
PS2 game uses three versions...
'00' type = uncompressed
'01' type = LZSS
'03' type = LZSS+RLE
PSP version uses a new '04' type. I don't know what it is, but most likely it's another LZSS+something else. I guess they needed a more efficient algorithm for the PSP version, which would make sense, since they managed to cut the game down to 1.3gb from 3.0gb.
Since this doesn't work with any of our existing de/compression tools, any chance of a project happening on this version is pretty much nil at this point. I still don't have a PSP anyway...

As its legality is questionable I won't provide it directly Google for "scph1001.bin" or "scph7502.bin".

I'm new. I have a psp and I pla nto import this. I'm not 100% sure what you do, but it has something to do with traslating Tales games.
So there not a really big difference from the PS2 Destiny 2 and the PSP version right? So I can use the other Destiny 2 infomation to help me with this game when I'm say...trying to find the right gumi to heal my TP.
I'm new please excuse me if you don't know what I'm talking about.

Erm, no. Unless you play them side by side.
This is an effort to put translated text
into the game itself
, as in, to play the game in english without any external texts.

any ideas on what the algorithms are? shouldn't be too hard to write utilities for them if you know what they are, i'd think...

Well, the size drop is most likely due to a change in audio/video codec for speech and FMVs between the two versions.

Good point.. there's no way you save 1.7 GB on text.

Well. Atrac3plus must be pretty damn efficient, or that and the sound quality was gimped. 500~600MB of the PS2 FILE.FPB is data. The rest is audio. The PSP version of that file is only 600MB itself, and according to the file table there are some several hundred
more
files in it than the PS2 version.

Well, the AC3+ streams most likely aren't in very great quality.
And atleast under normal circumstances, 45min of audio in stereo can go on about 100mb in the AC3 format you find on DVD movies, and the PSP AC3+ uses probably both VBR and a lower bitrate, I think.

Well, I can sort of expect that, there are new cameo fights so depending on how thorough they went with their moveset, it would kind of make sense..

I'm waiting for my import copy to come in. I'll try to find a way to decompress the text or something once I get it.

I have the game, and the audio quality is exact the same as the PS2 version. Atrac does not reduce sound quality.
They saved tons of space because of the platform it is on:
-AC3plus encoding for sound
-pmf encoding for video + rescale to psp screen
-rescaling everything (sprites, animations, backgrounds) to innate psp format saves lots of space without losing quality.
