HimeyaShop has a copy availble.
http://www.himeyashop.com..._info.php/products_id/253
I might plan to buy myself and dump it but don't rely on me too much, considering my dad's policy on one game a month and that I plan to Disgaea 2 upon release yeah, there's some problems there.

Well, if it's for the benefit of the project and would be helpful to you, I can hook you up with the funds to purchase a copy of the 'Best version' of Tales of Destiny 2. No false motives or whatever, I'm just usually quite willing to help out projects such as this financially since I've always been in a good position to do so. If you have a Paypal account that would be great. Send us a PM if you are still in need of this game. I also wanted to contact you regarding something else about the main site, but I suppose that can wait for a more convenient time.

I'm not hacking the chinese version...
Arngrim: I appreciate the offer, but I actually managed to get something in the pipeline regarding this just before you posted. I'm gonna delete the message body of the opening post here in just a second...

Alrightly. I have received a true blue original copy of The Best version.
And... it's 100% identical to the Megahits copy I received, down to the checksum of the disc image. So I have no idea why Kunitsugu's copy gave a different checksum...
Well, seeing as how both re-release copies have the same data, that makes things a little easier. Patches for the re-release versions will probably come a little later than those for the original.

so apart from the checksums, what difference is there data-wise between original and re-releases? a few modified bytes ^^ ?

I recall reading a glitch about equipping titles that was fixed in the Best and Mega Hits versions. Something about certain titles going over a set number which resulted in negative values and repeated equipping and unequipping of titles (without knowing what you're doing) could result in weakening your character's stats.
I hear the only major problem was the title Kyle gets for beating that special battle in the colisseum because that was a surefire way to activate the glitch. The vibe I got was that other than that one title, you can't really trigger the glitch if you don't know about it.
KusanagiLord02 & Stahn Alvein's character FAQs has details on it.

I apologize for the simple question, I just want to make sure.
I want to order this game from Play-Asia, but The Best version is the only one available. Am I correct in assuming that at some point, this patch will be available for that version of the game? If so, I'll be ordering that right away. Thanks.

If you read the topic, The Best and Megahits versions both have the same checksums. So yes, there is going to be a patch for it.

I did read it, but saying something has the same checksum doesn't mean a ton to me. I figured that it probably meant it would be okay, but I was just seeking confirmation. So thank you. I appreciate it.

A checksum is a like a fingerprint for data. If two releases of the game have the same checksum, they have the same data, in the same order, and thus the same patch will work. If even one byte is different somewhere in the game, the checksum would be different.

assuming the releaser isn't malicious
