Seems like you enabled scanlines which probably helped speed it up somewhat, unless those are native to the game itself.

They're not native, it's the GPU plugin's rendering that does that

random (i know this thread's old Smiley), but PCSX2 usually sucks for me when playing most of my images, but this actually runs a full 60 FPS for me haha.

Strangely enough, I just changed a video (and when I say just, I mean I JUST did it) plugin and it works great.  Sure there is the slowdown during anime sequences, but I don't even have the problem of seeing nothing but the black background anymore.  It seems the emulator does support it pretty well.  I was just having a DURR moment.
