This is a bit sudden, Cless... pleasant suprise nonetheless.
Also what would be the process to apply this menu patch?

Things to know:

I am currently only making an effort to translate whatever's in the main executable file. At this time, I don't know what all contained in it. I have however gotten an impression that the items list is inside. Most text in executables I've seen seems to pertain to menus.

I need a program to extract the game's data file if I want to potentially be able to more. Should be trivial in all honesty because I think I've got the fairly simple file system figured out. ToD2 reuses the same exact same compression scheme utilized in all 3 PS1 Tales games. The decompression utility I use for ToP PSX worked great on all the compressed driver files and Namco logo that I was able to test it with.

I put this board up early just cuz I felt like it. I'm still currently deciphering the weird font table so I can get a text dump. There may not be anything for awhile.

I'm expecting this to most likely be a simple PPF patch. Worry about it when it happens.

ToD2 is basically unplayable in current emulators so a modded console is required.

Would this mean that the Refine and Enchant menu stuff would be translated?  That always gave me the most trouble.

Okay. Font table is sorted out.

As far as I can tell, the following is in this file:

1) Item list/descriptions
2) Titles list/descriptions
3) Skills list/descriptions
4) Main menu text
5) Enchant menu text
6) Monster list
7) Recipe list/descriptions
8) Location names
9) Most likely more

I'm not entirely sure if I'm going to have the descriptions translated, at least, not yet.

As far as I can tell, there is only an uppercase font in the game. So a patch would most likely be in all caps.

Patch would be based on the ORIGINAL VERSION. I hear there are differences in the budget label re-releases. I don't know what those are.

lol, all caps. It would be as if Tabatha typed it all out.
My friend and I always poke fun at how her text is in all caps in the US version and it looks like she's yelling at you.

Is there any obvious clues in game to check if you have a budget re-release?

Yeah, I know that... I *ahem* don't have any packaging *cough cough*
Anything inside the game itself that could tell me if I have one of the re-releases?

Hacking PS2 games is quite cumbersome. If it was more simpler then Cless would've most likely also make this another major project on the site. A menu hack is good enough though, and there's several plot summaries to help you understand the game anyway. Otherwise do what I do and bring out that characters chart and dictionary and just translate what they're saying to understand whats going on.

All I can tell you about the original version is this:

ISO filesize: 3.01 GB (3,234,004,992 bytes)
CRC32: 359DE692

If it doesn't match up then you've got something else...

Mine matches up perfectly in ISO size. I don't know how to check CRC32...

I really wish I had some good paying job to afford importing. But in this case, even if I could, I probably would have a great amount of trouble trying to get an original version...

So if the patch is for the original version, does that mean people with Mega Hits and Playstation 2 the Best versions are out of luck?

does that mean you have access to the files inside the munge files (MOVIE.FPB and FILE.FPB) ?
I have been trying to hack these for a long time but couldn't do it no matter what...
Two questions... are the filenames encrypted? Do I need an LBA table to extract files from the munge data?

By the way some other dude wanted also to do some translation in ToD2, his homepage is located here :
http://www.talesoftranslations.com/
although it seems he hasn't shown up in 2 years  Huh

maybe you can try to contact him rudyxx@talesoftranslations.com

He he hasn't shown up in two years that is never a good sign. Usually it means the project is ditched and the maker has simply lost interest.

I've discovered even more text outside of the main executable. This is good!

Any lowercase? WinkWink

I doubt it. If you found that you'd mention it. Cry
